guilty or not guilty

rmodel65 -> guilty or not guilty (5/8/2008 11:45:02 PM)

found this on a gun forum, clicked this link, talks about the 3 choices a jury have. no I've heard of jury nullification before but not very much in depth. this video provides the third point if view a jury can take that is not normally advised of the jury. everyone needs to watch this, as you yourself might just be on a jury one day, or maybe standing trial and wish it was common knowledge.

judges no longer instruct jurors that they can nullify laws they fell unjust. its is one of only 2 real times a citizen of the us actually has power in the jury box and in the election box.

"you can await the reading of the verdict secure in the
knowledge you have voted your conscience and
convictions, not those of someone else"

While it sounds great, people are going to have a hard time making thier own judgment. Most people just want it over and done with, and resulting in making a hasty verdict.

true, one of the reasons people support voluntary jurys. then people who actually wanted to do it, could participate.

"support voluntary jurys" as in it's not yet in effect, or as in they're tryin to do away with it?

rmodel65 -> RE: guilty or not guilty (5/9/2008 5:13:42 AM)

F that, sounds like jury is a place of power for us in the general public. Why would people want to get off armed with this knowledge (i think i may already answered my own question in my pervious post)?

yeah stuff like this would be useful, for ohio wasnt it, where they made having a wreck in a construction zone a felony[&:] jury's could nullify the law etc.

Yeah i think it was Ohio. Wouldn't they tell people all this information when they picked them to be jurors? If they dont, wouldnt it be a good idea to bring this information to the public's eye?
