Ok first off I know hardly know anything about engines and stuff like that. I know my way around computers and figured it's time to get into my car. I got the 05 V6 coupe. purely stock except for the video head until and the 2 12's in the trunk.
First thing I was interested in is increasing my take off power. My car has no power from the get go. You can floor it and it slowly accelerates to speed. No burning out or getting thrown back in the seat like I can do with all my other cars. I was told it has something to do with a chip? The dealers at the Ford place told me 2 things.
1. the car has a gas to air mixture part that makes it more economical for mpg. However, I can not find such a part. 2. another dealer threw his hands up in the air and said, " that's electronic transmission for you, it's programed to save you on gas so, you will not be able to peel out" then he laughed at me for wanting to burn out.
Does anyone else have this problem? If so what's the first thing I can do to increase my take off power? I am sure I'll have a ton of questions but, Ill start here. thanks.

haha....you must be a super noob and those salesmen are full of sh*t because they eat bowls of sh*t....... get a custom tuner & intake combo and you will be screeching your tire(s) in no time. vmp, bamachips, brenspeed are the most popular three vendors for a tuner/cai combo. evolution is another shop with good reviews. the combo should cost you under $500 and it will turn your economy stang into a wild stang runnin' free....lol, ;) go to their websites and order online. when your package arrives in the mail, it will be like christmas.

Getting CAI/tune, shorter gears, t-lok will make the car VERY quick, I'd say midway between the stock V6 and the stock GT. Maybe threequarters...

+1.....i stated in another thread that my car feels like a 'LIL GT'....lol. its so much quicker and responsive than it was when i bought it. it really feels like a performance car now.

I was just so surprised how effective the t-lok was in providing traction. I thought that once I had 3.73s and used my 93race tune, I would never get traction and all that power would go to waste...but now its better than before! Loving every minute of it...

@Sancho. Your so correct I am a super noob. I am just a computer geek trying to have a nice fast car lol. If it was a computer I'd modify it and have a suped up pimp mobile. So let's say I get once of those kits do you think a guy like me could install the parts or, do I have to see a mechanic? I am in the Fontana area do you know a place I can go that would hook up my car with that kit? I'd travel all the way to L.A. Also, after lets say I get the kit and am burning up my tires, what the next thing to look into?

Cold Air Intake and Tune = Yes you could probably do it yourself with some basic hand tools (being a computer geek, you'd probably enjoy playing with the tuner and installing the tune)
Gears and a Tlok = No way.

Better tires. :)

i'm really surprised at how many people have been saying they can't burn their tires in stock form...i do it on accident sometimes....was really great when i took it for the test drive, when i was bringing it back into the lot i was pulling in and lit em up right there in front of the dealer...he says "hey man, don't you know you're supposed to do that when i can't see ya?" LMAO
i've still gotta get the intake and tune...i thought the c&l + tuner was 600?

you can do the CAI and tune install yourself. In fact, i highyl recommend it. you will grow a stronger bond with your car and a much better understanding of the inner workings. there are of course exceptions but just ask the forum about which you can do yourself or which you should have a shop do. single muffler, CAI, tune......all rather simple installations. good luck and post any other concerns you got.

Ok thanks for the info. I will look into tuning up my car once I get my economic stimulus check from the government. haha.
If you want a good head unit I am sporting a JVC KD-AVX33 google it, bought at circuit city. It has a built in DVD player and has the option to display navigation, rear cmaera, built in bluetooth sych, ipod control from the deck, and if you slip the installer subway sandwich they can hook it up so you can drive and watch DVD's but I would go around doing that. LOL. espically not while I am sitting on the 405 freeway parkig lot. I got 2 12 inch subs in the truck with a custom box and I highly recomend dyamating the trunk. The tail lights and mustang trunk emblem rattle a lot for some reason. Oh I also found some transitional tail lights for the 05 mustang. Are they worth getting? I have no pictures of my car like some of the folks but it's white and stock. I got a prescripton from my doctor to have limo tint all around execpt the front window. Stock rims, stock tail pipe. haha.

how did you get a prescription from your doctor for that?
And yeah my subs rattle the trunk soooo much. it sounds bad from the outside. I'm trying to sell them so i can put the money towards other things on the car. I already have the shaker 1000.
and about the sequential tail lights.. i think they look really awesome. I showed them to my dad because i want to get some, and he said they were illegal. is this true?

Get an Xcaltuner, a CAI and some sort of performance exhaust(single or dual)and It will definatly wake up your V6! vmptuning.com has a package deal with all three for about $600.00. Really good deal.

ahha don't fall for that I doubt they are illegal. Even if they were I doubt any cop is going to worry about that stuff. I don't remember anybody saying they got a ticket for them. Have fun you only live once

@ Amort. I had an accident a while back ago that compressed my c2 and c3 neck bones. I get a lot of migraines from the compression. I had taken the chance and limo tinted my car but then got a ticket for the tint. One symptom from migraines is sensitivity to light or Photophobia. I was actually going to a doctors appointment that day and while I was there I brought up in conversation to my doctor that I had to take off the tint on my car. He said I should keep it on since I get migraines and sunlight can make me uncomfortable. He wrote me a letter to take to the judge saying that I have photophobia and need the tint along with constant use of sunglasses during the day. I took the letter to the judge and he said, "okie dokie if the doc says you need tint then you need tint." The judge also said to put a copy of the letter in all my cars and my wifes car since I drive those too and, to keep a copy in my wallet so when I am in my freinds car and if they have tint and we get pulled over with me in the car it will give my a friend or family members a free pass on the tint for the day.

I went to this place in Rancho Cucamonga and asked the owner about buying the C&L CAI and Bamachip thing. He told the C&L CAI was good but I didn't that Bamachip or all that other fancy stuff. He said with his people he could tune the car and run it on his Dyno thing and continue to fine tune it so it's perfect. He said something about the Bamachip being good and all but since we don't live on the east coast and live on the west coast our fule is different and the Bamachip tuning thing is mainly for the east coast cars that use east coast fuel or something like that. What do you think? Should I listen to this guy or go to another shop and ask around? He also said to get something made by Gibson? I don't know what he was talking about but, I asked him if Flomasters American Thunder exhaust were good. what do you think about Flomaster AT exhaust?

not true i have the c&L intake with the x cal 3 tuned by bamaschips the thing about the gas is not true because he gives you the option to choose the gas that is around you i went with the 91 because im in the los angeles and thats what we have the highest octane and love my c&l intake with the tune your gonna enjoy if you go that route i only had it for two days

yeah, i have bama's tunes also and they are great! i agree with the shop that they can fine tune your car on a dyno to get the absolute most out of it but they are shootin' sh*t about the gas thing. sounds like a hater statement to me. how much will they charge you for a dyno tune? i've read about others who got about 3-5 hp more by doing a dyno tune compared to a mail order custom tune. it comes down to how much they charge you and if its worth the price for a few more horsies. bama's tunes are $50 each.

A lot of good advice on here. What I would suggest is; listen toALL the advice on Mustang Forums (not the mechanics you run into). Then go with the majority vote. Most of these guys know more than a lot of the professional mechanics I've talked to. Here is my plan;
1. Exhaust work (this decision will make you nuts)
2. CAI & tune (buy the package deal, learn the names, bama, brenspeed vmp, every one has thier favorite, Visit their websites and pick the one you like)
3. Trak loc and gears
Believe me, If you do that, you wont even know it's the same car....and ain't anybody gonna be callin you super n00b no mo.:D

that's some good info. I have done a lot of reading and found C&l CAI with Bama tune is a popular combo. I think I will look into these choices. I am not sure if it is against the forum rules (I looked but didn't see anything).. I live in the Inland Empire and would be willing to travel to L.A. to have a profesional install that stuff into my car. Can a shop name be mentioned that sells the kits and installs it. I have found some sites where I can order the kit but, I would rather buy it in person. Also can I get a definition as to what a Bama tune is, an Xcal 3, and Trak loc and gears are? At least I know what a CAI intake is and what it does, haha. thanks.

-A Bama tune is custom program (computer program), that optimizes specific bolt-on modifications car for your car's computer from bamachips.com. (custom tunes "programs" adjust air/fuel mixtures, speedometer settings for many different variables........such as.
......exhaust system ...(single muffler or dual mufflers), headers......(short or longtube), gear ratios......(stock, 3.73,4.10)..... Cold-Air-Intake systems...., Wheel/tire size, underdrive pulleys, etc...
-An Xcal 2 or 3 is a handheld tuner "programmer" that you can plug into computer and download a program from bamachips, and upload into your cars computer. (you can order them pre-loaded with tunes)
-Trac Loc also know as a T-Loc....basically......makes both your rear tires spin at the same time....instead of just your passenger side rear wheel. (GT mustangs have this already)
Gears-basically....it's a ratio....for ever 1 revolution of your driveshaft, your gears on your cars rear end spin accordingly. 3/73 are faster than stock.....4/10's are faster.....but you will sacrifice gas mileage at highway speeds...........this depends on TIRE SIZE as well. Can someone explaing gears/tire sizes better than me please?>?>>

i wasnt aware that you can tune for mufflers. all a tune can control is how much fuel/air enters your engine based off the intake and then make adjustments accordingly.
based on the science of properly designed headers, a good set can "scavenge" more fuel mixture into the cylinder than the stock manifold so it might be possible to tune for headers as well (just a guess). if this is true, i would also assume that this could only be accomplished if it were dyno tuned, not a mail order tune. again, this is just a guess.
