on my way to my grappling class i was driving minding my own business. i see a silver 00-02 (guessing) vette in front of me at a stop light. he keeps putting his hand through the moonroof and giving me a thumbs up. i though that he was just saying that my car was nice and really didn't expect him to want to race since he looked like 45 and had his significant other with him. anyway, the light turns green and he just stomps on it. i can tell it's stock because i was fairly quiet. so he is about 10 cars in front of me and i knew then he wanted to play. I try and catch up to him and he's cruising around 80mph. i don't wanna roll race from that high because by the time we finish we would be flying. so i pull up next to him and signal to slow down. i slow to about 50 in 2nd gear and he does the same, thinking i was going to get my ass handed to me i jump on him about a 1/2 car, then he pulls on me about 1 car length ahead and i shift to 3rd, that's where he granny shifted and i jumped back ahead.....and just kept pulling. i shut down in 4th about 110mph and i had about 2 cars on him. he flys by with a thumbs up, really cool old man. i'm sure i won because of the driver mod, but i thought i was going to get owned. i don't know how fast those year vettes are but i know it wasn't a Z06. believe me or not, that's how it went down.

The base C5 coupe is good for low 13s around 108-112 mph Sounds like a fun run

good run, sounds like fun. +1 drhoward, I was cutting some trees in this fancy neighborhood, and low and behold, the neighbor comes out the garage with mr rogers/bams ride laced in the purtiest blue ever. Of course I smacked my buddy for him to look (50 yr old cat who idolizes vettes), we stare in aww for a second, then I throw my hand up. All we get back is a smirk, followed by a "pfff", and then he just rolled away, no rev or nothing. This is in no reference to vette owners in general, rogers and bam have shown me not all vette owners have to be dicks

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. 8.4 @ 85 should be a decent run for a stock LS1 Vette. I'm running 8.2-8.3 @ 87 en route to 12.7 in the 1/4, a tad faster than a stock Vette.

My 99 c5, AUTO, would average between 101 to 104mph in the 1/4 and my 2000 c5 FRC, 6-SPEED, had a best of 111mph. So, as you can see the tranny makes all the difference in those cars. I would say you had an auto on your hands.

Either way just about every LS1 Fbody would have stomped you in your automatic Vette. Thats a pretty bad trap even with it being an Auto..besides the 4L60E is a pretty stout trans, when you have the 3.15s equipped. The FRC Corvette was lighter, and had better gearing than the regular Vette....so you really cant compare them... Low 13s 108-112 is an average for the base model C5 coupe.

thanks for the compliments guys. but i don't believe it was an auto, i was behind him at a stop light and his break lights weren't on and he just took off when it turned green. unless he neutral dropped it. also i think i am capable of high 12's. i always race my buddys ls1 camaro with full exhaust and he runs 8.2@87 at the track i go to, but when we race on the street we are dead even. he gets a better time than me becuase his 60 fts are 1.8-1.9 compared to my 2.0-2.1 60 fts.

I agree with what you’re saying. I was just trying to point out what a difference there was between my auto and my stick. I do realize there were other variable, such as weight with the FRC. My auto just did not MPH very well at all. Now at the track I would get great 60ft times and would run consistent low 13's and had a best of a 13.01. As for F-bodies, my buddies 2001 Z28 would beat me every time with my auto and I did have the 3:15 gear. My original point was depending on the car (auto or stick) you will have different results. I raced my buddy’s 1998 auto coupe with my stang and with the current mods I have listed in my sig, I beat him every time (dig or roll).

Did FRCs have the close ratio trans (not the regular T56) ?? I know they are tad bit lighter but I always wondered where the extra bump in MPH came from.

To be real honest with you, I am unaware of the FRC vettes having different gearing in the transmission as stated by MrRogers. I Thought that started in 2001 with the intro of the Zo6, but I am not 100% sure. I had a 2002 ZO6, and I know that had the different gearing for sure.
