use your current block and swap out the rotating assembly

2500-3000 for parts + labor

depending on what u want in the be s/b I've see up to 10-12K for custom builds

You can never have too much power, just not enough traction.

It would be cheaper to buy a built block from mmr for $2799, but that's the iron block i think.  Labor should be less with this route as well.

Livernois quoted me ~$6k installed for their 1000HP aluminum shortblock.  I might do it next season, plus LT headers (another ~$2k installed)

If you plan on more power . . .

fuel system upgrades
very minor valve work along with springs
new flywheel (for iron block)
and tuning

Ouch, what happened?

Looks like through MMR you can upgrade to the stock aluminum block for $730. My goal woudl be do doa  built block at the same time as a Whipple and just do it all at once.

Yes and no. The modular motors are very different than the regular push rod motors.  Over head cams, cam position sensors, tight tolerances, cam tensioners and so on and so on.

The push rod motors are designed simply and are much easier to tear down and rebuild.  Depending on what you are building you could save 2-4k in labor.  You would still need to get it tuned.

I don't have the time, tools or experience to build my motor.

It's getting much better.  Luckily my wife is more than understanding.
