Ideas for a new shift knob?

StreamlineStang -> Ideas for a new shift knob? (5/8/2008 6:47:44 PM)

Do you guys know if the first one would work on the stock shifter. Also has anybody used one of these? I'm looking for a decently priced good looking shifter so any other opinions would be great for the stock shifter. Thanks a lot.

I have a Monster Knob, it's a great knob, if you don't mind not having the shift pattern.

This is the one I'm getting ...

Looks close to stock - but still a bit different

i have the first one but in white with the grabberpony.com coller and love it.  looks real oldschool, and it matches my car.

I guess a whole short throw shifter is out of the question?

Haha naa I have long arms so it feels short enough! And I have a lot of "to buys" on my list.

That was my stock one - or it looks almost exactly like it. Using MGW's satin shifter w/black ball now. You can have mine & stalk for $50 shipped if you want it.

I have the one from your first link, the Roush retro styled, in black. I really love it, it feels and looks great. Then again I'm always a sucker for old school. I remember a buddy of mine's dad telling us about how his buddies used to take off the stock shifter on their classic muscle cars and replace them with real 8-Balls, i suppose you could go that route if you want to be really cost efficient [:D]

So then it fits the oem shifter? Did you need to get a new shifter boot for it? If so where did you get it?

It fits the OEM with no new boot. This is a pic from americanmuscle.com (where i bought it) and is exactly how mine looks. Should give you some idea. The kit comes with the knob and that nut you see. That black plastic peice is the one in the factory boot, although i dont remember if it looks that way on the stock shifter. If not, you'll have to pull it out and flip it over.

Have you thought about a shifter ball from http://www.grabberpony.com/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=12 ?
They are not exactly cheap, about 80 bucks but they look sweet.

Check out my thread for pics.

I have one similar to the mirror finished one.

SlideWRX -> RE: Ideas for a new shift knob? (5/9/2008 8:52:30 AM)

The aluminum ones are going to get hot in the summer, just a warning. [:)]  personally I like the stocker.  I had one made from delrin like the cylindrical roush one, but liked the more round stock knob.

Mine is no flash and all go.
The missing shift pattern is
to thwart stupid theives so
they cant shift it. [:D]
Function over form. [8|]
Thats a custom Stainless Steel jam nut/shift boot holder
I whipped up right quick from the stock shifter dimentions. [:D]
