Hi all,

I'm about to put in a monte carlo bar and export brace into my car.
I was guessing that for the new export brace to come in the old crossmembers have to go.
Looking at it I found that the crossbraces are welded to the shock towers. I was always convinced that they should be screwed on top of the shock tower. is that normal? do I have to cut it?
I'll upload pictures later (after lunch break)

Kalli

yeah the short part of the braces are welded you can either remove them, or as some people do just leave them in place.

Thx for info. I'll leave them in place then. Nothing bad about double-strapping (apart from the looks).
If looks annoy me I can always cut them at a later stage

thx for confirming

Kalli

I cut mine off also. I had seen it both ways at car shows and it looks a lot cleaner without them.

thanks all. twas a slow day today, so I decided to put the brace and the bar in.
I cut them but left a bit of meat on it (call me  lazy).
Impossible to do on your (some fiddely job with the screws on the yoke that hold the shocks ...) own so I was glad my girlfriends brother called over to lend me an eager willing to learn hand ;-)

and thanks to god for rubber hammers ...

i had it pulled off and back about 20 times in one day to change the advance springs. once i wasn't careful putting it back and when starting the engine i created a haircrack in the cap with the rotor. i'm quite sure this is not the only place you will find ducktape on my car  ... see the top of the aircleaner? the thread is not long enough so I put in a piece of a petrol hose to keep the aircleaner on. If you judge me from those two things you shouldn't bring your car to me for any repair ;-)

Looks better! I got both in black but a set of chromed shock tower caps.

And yes, rubber hammers are a great tool for the job.

you only need two tools in life. duct tape and WD 40

if it moves and shouldnt. Use the duct tape.

if its supposed to move and isn't use the 40.

LOL

yah i figured that one with the sticker as well. the arc of the sticker didn't match the arc of the aircleaner. at least not pretty, so I just tuck it there

liquid wrench? like the break loose stuff for stuck bolts? ill accept that.

im reluctant to accept a combo screwdriver set. because at that point why not add hammers and chisels and wrenches?

i might be willing to accept needle nose pliers.

sorry for going off topic. but i figured an amendment to MAN Law should be discussed throughly.
