1BAD3V -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/8/2008 10:39:49 PM)

Like I already mentioned, some of these cars are just rumors, but I still wanted to see your guys opinions on which ones would be great for modding if they were produced.  The new Evo and Sti are already out, hence why it didnt make my list, and the new GTR is way too expensive for the list.

Honestly nothing can top a V8 for bang-for-buck.  Throw some drag radials and a nice shot of nitrous and you have a car that is pretty quick for almost no money invested.  I'd say the new Camaro will be the best, followed by the Mustang.

Although those new Slobalts aren't sounding too bad.

IWHINE -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/8/2008 11:25:35 PM)

the cobalt's motor will be fine, there is good power to be had from it. All it really needs is a tune, tbe, a few other bolt ons and it will make the same power my car makes for much less. The trans is iffy on it, i will wait to make judgment till i see a few go.

1BAD3V -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/9/2008 12:00:55 AM)

Since I'm an Ecotec Nutswinger I might have to break down and get the new Cobalt.  As much as I would love to have the new Mustang when it comes out in 2010 or 2011, I've wanted an Ecotec project for awhile now.  I'm in a bind!!  [:@]

what about those new turbo slobalts, they look like they will have some serious potential once the aftermarket gets some parts for them

plus they are super cheap

That was actually gonna be my next car I purchased this month or whenever they came out, but I figured with all the new cars coming out in 2010-2011, I'd wait and see what I have to choose from.  Everyone knows I'm an Ecotec Nutswinger!!  [:D]

There is a guy at work that has a buddy that works for a GM dealership and he is apparently getting one as soon as they come out here (next month I have heard)

I hope to see a few at the track this summer, I think they will do alot better in our thin air then the old s/c ones did (even the modded ones had a hard time breaking out of the 15's up here)

IWHINE -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/9/2008 7:39:49 AM)

The car is designed to make 260hp no matter what, elevation will have nothing to do with it anymore.

drhoward -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/9/2008 8:28:52 AM)

so if you dragged one up to mount everest it would make the same power[8D]

That turbo had to max out at some point[:D]

lol, the car's pcm will up the boost at higher elevation to make up the lost power, which is why some people are going to see 16 psi some will see 20.

bluebeastsrt -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/9/2008 3:56:14 PM)

The high-altitude performance of a turbocharged engine is significantly better. Because of the lower air pressure at high altitudes, the power loss of a naturally aspirated engine is considerable. In contrast, the performance of the turbine (Turbo) improves at altitude as a result of the greater pressure difference between the virtually constant pressure upstream of the turbine and the lower ambient pressure at outlet. The lower air density at the compressor inlet is largely equalized. Hence, the engine has barely any power loss.

How about the BMW 135i?  Too pricey for the list?

That'll be a force to be reckoned with!  I think stock it said 0-60 : 5.0, and didn't mention any other specs.  I think it has tremendous potential, and is in the same ballpark in price as the other cars mentioned.  The slobalt although it will be a real contender, is quite steep in price!  nearly $23k for a cobalt?!  Way to much!

+1!!! Bang for the buck this car looks like a winner. 5 grand in mods and it should be in the 11s no problem. Motor trend just got a 13.9 @ 102.5 bone stock. I also think the turbo hyundi  genesis (225hp)could be a real winner. It's the same motor that powers the Evo and Caliber SRT-4 and they are close to 300 HP stock. Still for max power you can beat the V8s

Since when has the SRT4 had an EVO motor? It has a Mitsubishi turbo but the motor itself is completely different. For a start there is a 0.4 litre difference between the engines.

The new Caliber SRT-4 &  the Evo 10 share the same world motor as the new forth coming genesis coupe base engine turbo 4. check it out in motor trend, car & driver etc. Remember theres more than one SRT-4 out there now. They even talked about having an all wheel drive Caliber srt-4 like the evos system but went away from that idea because they thought it would turn off the target buyers. The cheap buyers.

They are the same engine series. Different engine however. Its like saying the 5.4 4 valve in the GT500 is the same as the 4.6 3 valve in the GT. They are somewhat similar but rather different at the same time.

BicketyBam -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/10/2008 9:59:35 AM)

I wouldn't be seen dead in a Caliber SRT4, even if it ran 8's.  That thing is beyond fugly.

wozz -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/10/2008 11:41:13 AM)

^ I agree with you there. They sell them over here in the UK as well. Well they sell the normal versions no SRT4 yet. Went to look at one for my mother as we thought it would make a decent car for moving the dogs about and also fitting her wheelchair in.

I thought it was rubbish. Build quality on them is terrible everything feels cheap and plasticy they also look crap don't drive nicely either. Was not impressed by them. When the French are building supermini hatchbacks (Yaris size) with better build quality it says something. As French cars are typically quite ****ty...with the exception of mine which happens to be rather good.

Weirdly though the Caliber seems to keep its money very well out here which is unusual..Still wouldn't buy one though we have instead looked at getting a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.

cacimar -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/10/2008 12:34:26 PM)

The caliber srt-4 looks way better in person than it does over the web. However, i would not buy one for myself i rather have the new evo but is way out of my league price wise [:@]

All righty then, moving on!

I would have prefered if they made the avenger the SRT-4 instead of the caliber. I'm with you bicky. That may very well be the ugliest car sinse the gremlin or the pacer!

drhoward -> RE: Next best tuner car coming between 2009-2011? (5/10/2008 8:13:35 PM)

Ya I really like the looks of the avenger, its too bad they don't have an srt version of it
