F5GTS331 -> how to build 95 gt? (5/7/2008 8:54:09 PM)

is it possible and how to build a reliable 302 based 95 gt with good power and good gas mileage?  how should i go about buildig this car? i will have a six speed so keep that in mind. i just been struggling with what to do to my car how can i get a lot of power and not kill my gas mileage i don't want a car that's gettin ten mpg ya know i saw vic edelbrock say on tv that he has an old classic 400+ hp car that gets 25 mpg with an auto so what's it gonna take to do this in my car?  all motor? blower? turbo? mixture? what do you guys think i should do?

supercharge or turbo it[;)]

USMC1775 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/7/2008 9:56:34 PM)

My route = build a respectable 302/306 with decent H/C/I and strap on a Vortech. As of now, I average 20mpg doing 80mph 90% of the time, with 373s. So I figure once I throw in the S/C, I keep my foot out of it and cruise around speed limit and Ill keep around my 20.[:D]

1990NOS! -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 7:47:38 AM)

low compression.
turbo--- more efficient
a good gear nothing rediculious
Electronics, u'd pulleys.....
MM&FF had an article on a SN95 body mustang w/ a stroker, T67mm turbo, 6spd...etc.. riding on the streets of NY in 90 degree weather getting 17mpg in stop and go traffic and staying under 180 degrees operating temp.

F5GTS331 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 10:10:35 AM)

what makes the mpg's go down so much when building an engine? just the size of injectors?  the heads? i figure a 302/306 would get bettfer gas mileage than a 331/347/351 and i thot low compressiom would help.  weight  reduction would help i know. will prob stick with a 3.55 or maybe a 3.73 since i know i'm gettin a six speed.  my dillema is why can't i have a bigger cubic in motor and not have to salvage my gas mileage?  i know as guy that has a 98 z 4.10 gears and a six speed on a long distance trip got 30 mpg as you know those are 5.7L with about 320 crank horse.  so how do us stang guys acheive that?  the blower is a def option turbos clutter the bay a little more than blowers and i want the car to be kinda neat under the hood cuz i'll be showing it as well.  so i guess this is boiling down to stroker or not and how many pounds of boost i want to make a lot of power but not get 10 gallons to the mile and no i did not say that wrong i said it how i meant it [:)]  just point me in the direction i need be and what parts are gonna best fit my application if you will [:)] if this is gonna be at all possible meaning having a high horse car that gets good mpg [:)]

Jasperstang308 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 10:17:15 AM)

just do a 306 with a GOOD H/C/I and slap a turbo on it

1990NOS! -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 10:48:10 AM)

^^^^^ what he said. IMO- electric water pump, E-fan, U/D pullies and aluminum heads. Yes a larger injector does waste/cost you more fuel due to the fact the motor is begging for more fuel as well as a large fuel pump... although a typical pump is 255 for us mustang guys (factory 190lph but with a buld like that the pump will need to change).
With the type of engine listed byJASPERSTANG, depending on boost.... injection is what will get you, its all in a matter of keeping your foot out of it, how many accessories you run and etc...

i'll look for that MM&FF artical and post it for ya let you do some examination on it.....

The weight of your right foot...

the more power the engine makes, the less effort it needs to move the car.

your rear end ratio has nothing to do with you having a six speed... the 6th gear in the cobra spec T56 is the same as the T5

you can, just don't drive like a dickhead.

My old probe got 28mpg and ran 18 psi of boost, made over 300hp, My cobra used to get 26MPG, and made 276rwhp. Its all about how you drive!

1990NOS! -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 10:52:16 AM)

here ya go   HAWT + BadA$$ = Nasty street car.... 800rwhp over 1k hp to the crank w/ a A4 block and T76

F5GTS331 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 9:08:56 PM)

that was an awesome article!!!  i noticed one thing tho...... they didn't comment on gas mileage :(  but with 96# injectors you know it can't be good at all but anyways .....wow a 1000 horse street car thats just amazing!!! what makes turbos more efficient anyways? just the fact of no extra drag on the engine?  i was really wanting the flowzilla but everyone says they're only good for about 350 at the wheels am i correct?  i would like more than that and the thing i didn't like about them was the only fit on stock intakes :( why don't they make one for an edelbrock intake or something like that? i guess it's just gonna be a toss up on the stroke of the engine i decide to use.  what's the diff there? a few more rpms in a 306 and a little more power but a little less rpms on a stroker?  i'm still undecided on what to do:(  i guess just quit worrying bout the mpg so bad and build a b/a motor [:)]

F5GTS331 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/8/2008 9:14:43 PM)

are you serious the six gear ratio is the same as a t-5 fifth gear?  that's crazy if so....what's the use of sixth gear then?

1990NOS! -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/9/2008 6:12:26 AM)

do like i did.... build the F*c* outta your stang... and buy a beater... late 80's-early 90's import, or a little a$$ truck with a 4banger.[:@][;)]

F5GTS331 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/9/2008 6:28:21 AM)

i think i will :) i'm gonna do a lot of wieght reductions so that'll help too i've never thought of using a electric water pump but i think i will now i'm not gonna run power steering and get a quick ratio manual rack so i'll prob only run alt and a/c and blower :)

1990NOS! -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/9/2008 6:38:13 AM)

no pwr steering can be a beeeotch-- but ya get used to it...
Electric water pumps--- just get a painless wiring kit from Summit or Jegs and get all of your ACC's/ on a panel w/ flip switches--- it's not that hard, just time consuming. There is a 5 toggle switch panel they sale you can set it however you like (fuel, fan, water, batt, ignition)
that should be all you need....
BUT- by losing weight and all that really wont help out by an enormous amount... It seriously comes down to how you drive it (taking off fast, runnin the a/c all the time, ride at hi rpms..etc) and the size fuel injectors you run... At idle- nah it wont hurt ya, but getting on it, and cruisin-- maybe

I have 30lb injectors w/ 255 pump and drove from SC to FL with my mods and some (listed in my sig) w/ a hatch full of luggage, and ran a trans-am on I-85.... Still only stopped 2x's for gas...618miles one way from driveway to driveway.

F5GTS331 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/9/2008 8:34:13 AM)

sounds good dude :) i wanna get my car a little under 3000# and i'm gonna spend a great amount of time on suspension so that it'll hook still or decently hook and i don't usually drive at high speeds i usually go all the way to fifth now and i will do the same with the six speed prob won't need it as much except for trips on interstates which was a concern for me cuz i didn't want hauling it to be the cheaper way on gas when i wanted to take it somewhere :(  i'm not constantly gettin on it so that shouldn't be a big prob either and it's prob gonna end up being a weekend car instead of a dd.  so maybe it'll all work out and when it's done i guess i'll post results on how it does power wise and fuel consumption wise :)

mcget29 -> RE: how to build 95 gt? (5/9/2008 12:00:33 PM)

i got a decent 94 GT full bolt ons head cam and forged pistons, gets about 18mpg on the stock tranny with 3.73's

go fast or save gas? there is a trade off for every thing...
