New (to me) roof

I finally picked up a donor roof for my 65 today. I plan to drill the spot welds around the windows and I see the seam on the front pillars so I will seperate there but trying to decide where to cut it on the back pillars. right now the donor goes all the way down to the bottom of the rain gutters. I plan to dispose of my gutters anyway. What are your opinions for where to stop it around the back window. Any other helpful suggestions would be appreciated as well. id take it at the factory seams, also keep in mind if you delete the drip rails your gonna need to weld that seam up since thats where the inner and out roof are joined together

I knew that I was going to have to weld up that seam. I think that I will cut out my old roof and install it on the donor supports to get a feel for what I will have to do to get it to look the best before welding the new skin on my car. How is the inner cross member attached to the roof skin. It looks like glue. What is the best way to seperate the two without warping my new skin? Do you think I will have to put in any bracing to avoid body flex or should there be enough support with the inner framework?

Add some torque boxes, frame rails, and make it a removable top.

Sounds like you really have to know what your doing to replace a roof. Post some pics of the job, that would be interesting to see. Good luck!

Well I have alredy replaced the drivers side rear quarter, Outer wheel well and the trunk area to the gas tank. Floor pans filled in my cowl vents and made about a dozen patch panels for rusted out areas around the car. I still have to replace the passenger side pillar and the rear taillight panel. I will take pics of the roof fabrication. I wish I would have taken more pics of other projects and I lost some that I did take when my computer crashed.

I might take you up on that Darreld. I dont know if I will try to tackle it this week end with mothers day here. But maybe next weekend. I am going to try to re prime the engine bay this weekend for the final blocking. with luck I can cut up the donor during the week after work.

WOW, that's about the only thing I didn't have to replace on my 67. Good luck, would love to see the pics.

Just a tip i blew 1,100 to get my new roof on .. they cut it at the A and B pillars and drilled out the spot welds along the windshield area and cut into the sail panel welded the new top on. basically just skinned the roof. I would keep the gutters. I know folks like to take them off for a smoother look but...the thing I hate most about new cars is no rain gutters. I like to have my windows cracked at least a little while I drive and no gutters means water comes right into the window. You can't even use your windshield washers without water coming in. I know your not going to do much driving in the rain with a car like this but it sucks if you use the washers and get water in the window. Just my opinion.

it will be a daily driver for my wife when I get it done. I do like it better with the gutters gone. We live in one of the rainiest states in the country but like I said my wife will be driving it so what do I care.LOL
