I am looking for a good head unit that will work in my 00 mustang. Also what else would I need to make it work?

I made another post similar to this, but here's what I got. Alpine IDA-x001 is a nice head unit, or at least I think so. It doesn't have a cd player but you don't really need one because you just hook up your ipod and go and its pretty much got ipod controls for the head unit so its pretty easy to navigate through your ipod, supposing you have one at least. I ran my ipod cord into the glovebox and the ipod just sits there until I decide to put more songs on or something. As for what you'll need, kinda depends on your stock system. If you have the Mach 460 like I do, you'll need a wiring harness that will work for the 00-04 mustang with premium sound and you'll also need a dash install kit either way I think. Here's the site that I used, but I was told in my post that the set-up could blow the tweeters but it works fine for me.

Ya it dosn't have to have a cd player because i just listen to my ipod. Yes i have the 460. Im just lookin for something thats got a little more power and is a little flashier than the stock unit. Thanx man.

Good luck with your install. I really would recommend that head unit too. Takes a little getting used to but it is really nice. Looks good too. If you do go with that one, or a head unit that you can run a wire from the back of the head unit for the total control thing so you can browse your ipod with the head unit controls, I'd recommend running the wire into the glovebox. Keeps the ipod hidden and out of the way and doesn't take up too much room in the glovebox. As for that site, just make sure you're careful with the wiring harness because you'll end up soldering or crimping 2 or 3 wires into the main ground wire which was a little tricky. For me, worked good, sounds better, does everything I want it to.

So I went and checked that head unit out on another site and it really does look pretty awsome and the specs on it sound even better. I think thats what i am going to go with thanx guys for all your help.

I'd say it depends on what brand you want and how much you're willing to spend and all that. My friend has an early-mid 90s Ranger extended cab, its a retired Meek's truck, and he just got a couple used Alpine Type E subs. He has them in the back facing forward right behind the seats and being Alpine's bottom of the line subs, they sound pretty good. I think he ended up spending under 200 bucks because they were used and came with an amp that was almost enough to fully power the 2 10s and he bought himself a box and wiring to hook em all up. They sound pretty good but a Ranger isn't exactly a Mustang... I myself don't have any subs so I can't really offer too much information about it. I myself want the Type S or maybe Type R but they are a little more expensive. The subs aren't really what I'm worried about though. The amps are whats expensive... If you stick with Alpine, I'd go with the PDX amplifiers because I have one to power my speakers and they are nice and stackable if you get any more, but they do get pretty pricey. What I want to do is get a couple Type S 10s and put them in the trunk facing the seats so you can't really see them from the trunk that well and it seems like it might sound a little better, but I'm not really sure about the best way to mount them. Sorry I can't really offer any better information, but thats all I got and maybe something to look into. The Type E subs really do sound pretty good though. Much better than what I expected.
