I'd love to line up with a Z06 around my neck of the woods. It would be entertaining watching the 80 year old driver (always are) try to work his way through the gears. I just seriously can't find a vette on the roads in MN being driven by a guy under the age of 55. Needless to say, they are more into the show than the go.
I think you have the win on a stock GT500. If he spent $1100 on an evolution stage 2 and some gears I think he would have the edge. Stock for stock, Z06 wins.
:( sad i hate to see a mustang lose specially such a beautiful one but i hate it even more when people talk **** when they know nothing, cant believe i would ever root for a chevy win over a ford but for the sake of reality please rape him

Gt-500 stock will be anally destroyed by a C6 Z06 from a dig or roll
Doesn't seem exactly right for that GT500 to get pulled on by C6Z given the HP#s of the cars. It happens.
alright please chime in and tell us why!!! Sure 640 rwhp (GT-500)sounds a lot against 501rwhp (C6 Z06) but when u take the following variables into account then u realize why the z06 still pull like a mofo on topend.
3150 Lbs Curb Weight, Pounds, (About 100 pounds less than a regular coupe.) .28 drag coefficient
I would say that 770lbs lighter and almost a 1.0 difference in drag forces and way better suspension to put down 501rwhp for the z06 will take car of a 640rwhp Shelby GT-500. Either way that link was just to show that with a few bolt ons the C6 Z06 still held his own and stood like a champ with a heavy modified Shelby. Now a stock Shelby will be toast against a Stockish Z06.

The owner of business that competes with mine was talking all sorts of sh!t to my brother about our Z06's. He said he wants to line up with the two of us and show us what the GT500 can do. He was saying how it just blows the tires off at will. That's a good thing? Like I said - his GT500 is bone stock. Funny thing is that his last car was a C5. I don't think he understands the difference between a base C5 and a C6 Z06. I guess he will find out.
From a dig, he's history - no doubt in my mind. I am curious as to how well he would hang from a roll though. That extra weight is less of a factor.
And in case anyone forgot, I LOVE the GT500. Definitely want one.
I might get flamed for this, but the new z06 could spot a gt500 6 cars to a 1/4 and still walk it down and beat it. The previous z06 (pre 06') is a better run for a stock gt500, sorry. Blame ford for making them 3900lb pigs when they know darn well they should be 3200-3300lbs tops.

The GT500 is a nice car, but will get killed. Stock for stock, they may be in the same price class, but performance puts the C6Z in a whole other league. The Z is a world beater, the GT500 is not.

Who cares how much horsepower it has, all that matters is how fast it goes!
Best run 13.23 at 106.97mph with a 2.183 60' Times from before tune and driver mod.
No contest here. I pulled two cars on a GT500 from a roll and I only trap 120. Honestly his only chance is a short race like the 1/8 mile where maybe if he's an amazing driver he could outlaunch you, hope you spin and make you play catch-up.

Of course the Z will win with its weight advantage. It's not all about power to weight when buying a vehicle, there are other factors or else everyone would go buy a crotch rocket for 12 grand brand new and blow the doors off Z06's. They are both awesome cars but I personally would rather have the GT500 since it has a back seat and is quite a bit safer than the vette which has a "composite" body.

I have to admit it hurts to say this being somewhat of a Shelby fanboy.. LOL.. But, Cacimar's right, the GT500 is going to get ass-raped no matter how it goes down. The best I've ever seen a stock-ish GT500 run was a 12.09 and that was with a guy that drives SVT's pro-mod car professionally behind the wheel of it. A C6 Z with a good driver in it will run mid to low 11's, maybe high 10's if the driver is good enough. Not really any contest. I'd tell the guy with the big mouth to bring plenty of K-Y Ed, sounds like he's going to need it.. lol

That surprised me. I thought weight becomes less of an issue from a roll.
it does, it doesn't go away as a factor completely but gearing, aeros, etc take over as more 'primary factors'. Along with gearing you have to consider torque curve, peak power vs power under the curve, etc... Anyone know what GT500s actually put down? We all know the C6Z is pushing a bit more than the claimed 505hp rating (something I haven't seen taken into account yet)
