ThumperMX113 -> Introduction ... (5/7/2008 6:58:57 PM)

I just wanted to introduce myself around here, the name is Michael. I haven't bothered to post in this part too much. I'm an avid detailer to say the least. I'm about to open up an e-store to sell products shortly. And no I'm not advertising my company. I've been detailing heavily for about 4 years now so I can give some good advice to anyone who needs it. I'm a big poster on F150Online.com in their detailing section. There are a lot of people there who know their stuff. I'm pretty partial to Meguiars and Poorboy's stuff. Anyways enough of my rant, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you guys know if you've got questions feel free to email me or PM me.

ThumperMX113 -> RE: Introduction ... (5/7/2008 7:33:35 PM)

I don't want to step on any toes or break any rules. So I wouldn't be posting this but because it was asked ... I'll be carrying Meguiars and Poorboys for the most part. I guess I should of also posted some pictures of my work on my car. [:D]

Hi Michael, very nice black stang.  Love the Rogue wheels. [:)]

I'd love some advice!  I have a black 2004 Subaru with gold metalic in the paint that gives me fits.
Never looks clean. [:@]  It is recently clayed and has a coat of Klasse All-In-One.  Any suggestions?

More specefically what's wrong with the paint? Are you dealing with swirls, marring, surface imperfections? Or does it just get dirty real fast? Is it something that's different from the other vehicles? Or is it just because it's Black and you can see everything?

Margarita Girl -> RE: Introduction ... (5/8/2008 6:46:06 AM)

The Subaru is my winter car and it does have some scratches, but it is the dull paint that bothers me.
I tried a light polish but the applicator pad was seriously dragging so I stopped.   Oxidation?

Sorry, I don't have any good pictures at work.

If the pad was dragging, did you clay it first? The clay will do a lot to get the embedded dirt out which will help restore the shine itself, not to mention clean the paint so you can polish it and really get the shine back.

Margarita Girl -> RE: Introduction ... (5/8/2008 7:13:42 AM)

Yes, I clayed first.

I was also getting black on my applicator pad with the polish.

99 GT vert -> RE: Introduction ... (5/8/2008 8:39:00 AM)

welcome man good looking car you have there

ThumperMX113 -> RE: Introduction ... (5/8/2008 9:56:30 AM)

Margarita Girl that's VERY wierd that you were getting Black on your pad. Usually when that happens, it means your working with a single stage paint and I highly doubt that Subaru is using a single stage paint in 2000+. I'd hate to give you advice, it not work, or it damage your vehicle, this sounds like it'd be best to assess the situation first hand and in person.

Do you have a dual action polisher like the G100 or Porter Cable 7424? If your doing it all by hand, I feel for you. I'd highly recommend buying a DA. Meguiars actually discontinued the G100 recently because they couldn't sell the G110s. So get a Porter Cable 7424, pads, etc. It'll make your life a lot easier. This is the best process I've found that works on dark color vehicles especially Black. Wash, Clay, Meguiars #80 with the DA, Poorboy's Black Hole with the DA, Poorboys EX Sealant (12 hour cure time) and topped with Meguiars #16. Meguiars #16 is discontinued so you can go with #26 or the consumer grade Gold Class Wax. This is the exact procedure that I did for the pictures I posted.

Margarita Girl -> RE: Introduction ... (5/8/2008 10:18:37 AM)

I've been trying to get SVTBill to wet sand it for me. [8D]

Never buy a car with Obsidian Black Pearl paint. [;)]
