MartyMoose 05-07-2008, 08:22 PM It'll help you outrun the law so you don't get all those speeding tickets your sure to get without it.
That'll be $20. PayPal's good.
boomer123 05-07-2008, 08:22 PM uhmmm well it definitely will go faster.... im 17 and i decided to get the cervinis kit instead of a procharger due to the fact there is no way in hell my dad would let me supercharge my gt, and i dont really need the power
chain1 05-07-2008, 08:23 PM Buy your own.
Wally39 05-07-2008, 08:29 PM Good for passing power when you need it lol
Aziraphale 05-07-2008, 08:31 PM Since no one else answered, no, you will not get anywhere near your money back out of it. There's technically no reason that'll help convince him that more power is good for you if he doesn't drive it.

Elwood 05-07-2008, 08:53 PM Cuz a supercharger is teh awesome....
I can see wanting a supercharger, but there is no way you are going to NEED one. And I don't really see how you'd get any money back out of it. It isn't going to help your gas mileage or your insurance. However it will increase the smiles/dollar value...
Either way... I want one too [8D]
howarmat 05-07-2008, 08:56 PM im sorry, your dad is an idiot if he does this
Also to answer the questions:
you wont get your money out of it and I cant see any good reasons for you to have a supercharged car.
Cal26Stang 05-07-2008, 11:26 PM insurance, death, gas or p**sy, speed, and sound
I'd spend the 3 grand on other bolt on's...
rmssch89 05-08-2008, 12:34 AM While superchargers can be beyond awesome I can't really think of a single reason you could use to convince your dad to go halves on a supercharger. It's just one of those things you'll have to save up for and cover yourself.
boochy 05-08-2008, 12:38 AM I hope you don't plan on showin this thread to your father. It won't help your case much.
I personally say save up for it yourself.
Houstons_Problem 05-08-2008, 12:39 AM I remember seeing a documentary about the 1981 Mt. St Helens eruption. The film was taken by a helicopter that was traveling above a road that exited the park. When the mountain started to blow, people got in their cars and headed down the mountain as fast as they could. The helicopter followed the road everybody took while the narrator told a survivor's story. The survivor remembered passing a large Ford station wagon powered by a big block v-8 that was going down the mountain at 95 mph. The station wagon didn't make it. It was overtaken by the heavy, hot volcanic ash and the helicopter showed the remains of the station wagon tumbled off the road side all twisted up. The occupants were dead. The survivor made it. He was going 120mph.
Tell your dad you need a supercharger because Mt. St Helens might blow again.
Or tell him you need a supercharger because you could be driving along the coast and a tsunami could get you before you are able to climb the hill away from the ocean. Or tell him you need a supercharger because without one, aliens might be able to abduct you. Or tell him you need a supercharger because he could be with you and start having a heart attack and you could get him to the hospital faster. Or tell him you need a supercharger because then you won't need a motorcycle.
Logical arguments are the best arguments to make an appeal to Dads.
Be warned. After hearing that you want a supercharger, your Dad may also reconsider your need for a V-8 pony car.
Be careful, young man. Car wrecks suck. Sorry to rain on your parade, but when I was young, I damned near got killed in a car wreck. And several of my friends were nearly killed in wrecks they got in.
mygt500 05-08-2008, 01:11 AM Other than to help get u laid[&:]......which in no way gets your dad laid[&:].....I believe you should not get an S/C.... in the long run your father will pay a whole lot more than what he gave you for the s/c if you can convince him to help you buy one. (increased insurance costs, repairs, maintainence costs and replacements costs when you blow the motor, etc) JMO J
thewarmachine 05-08-2008, 01:41 AM Is a supercharger really any good in any way besides racing?
snicksrolos 05-08-2008, 02:38 AM Damn...there sure are a lot of fans for Superchargers on here today (that was sarcastic for all of you non-supercharged heros)!!!
Dude, I see it like this - if your Dad is anything like mine, he won't need much convincing other than the first ride when it's installed! It's not a Dad's job to be a bank, nor is it his job toanalyze why you want something...if he's raised you right (and somethingtells me he'soff to a good start, you're notdriving anything with a bowtie on it) all he needs to do is either be supportive and help, or tell you to save up for it yourself. I'm almost 29 years old and over the years my Dad and I have invested in several cars, and car parts together. If you've got a good relationship, and are similar in nature, then this is a no brainer in my opinion.
Life is too short to worry about the details, get the supercharger and enjoy it!
...oh, and take pics!!!
tached_out 05-08-2008, 04:54 AM tell him it will stop the kids from picking on you at school.
Now I am not going to say you'll wreck it because I have a friend with a turbo'd Z28 pushing 700rwhp and hes 16. But he has all been racing cars sense he was able to walk and his dad owns an auto body shop lol so if the crash doesnt kill him his dad will but can easily still fix the car haha
bolting on a S/C to a with no other supporting mods is stupid to me. There are a slew of other mods that you need to do before adding any FI application. Tell him to pay for a full exhaust system for your car and the labor. That will make any one crap there pants at your school period.
Then with your money use it for some gears, intake +tune, and and some cosmetic upgrades.
Jus Cruisin 05-08-2008, 06:38 AM There is nothing that compares to the whine of a supercharger. Way bettersound (to me)thana turbo sound or exhaust. That is the first thing out of people's mouths (the whine sounds awesome)when they hear me "stand on it". Of course a Mustang supercharger will never compare to the sound of an 8-71 on a big block. But, if you can't afford it yourself, wait till you can.

Women don't give a crap about a supercharger. He'd be better off with the body kit.
nghtrnnr 05-08-2008, 09:11 AM didnt the original poster say he has a gt? cause if so the kid is lucky enough as is...the s197 gt runs with anything on the street stock...theres absolutely no shame in the car as is...i wouldnt give my kid a gt at 16 and no argument on earth would make me give hima supercharger...i'd rather give him a faulty grenade....only reason you needa supercharger is heavy time spent at the track or big money streetraces imho
Riptide 05-08-2008, 09:27 AM Why are superchargers so much money for these cars? Same thing for turbos. You can spend less than 2 grand and get a nice turbo for a wrx.
grampa_stang 05-08-2008, 10:12 AM These cars already run 13's and high 12's with minor bolt-ons. How friggin fast do you need to go.
The peeps that have SC's...wanted them.....they&the cardefinitely don't need them. Different story
of course if the car is for the track. As your driving around...look around,I bet you can beat 99%
of the cars around you.

Riptide 05-08-2008, 10:29 AM marcus and moose are right.
thewarmachine 05-08-2008, 11:12 AM I'd feel ashamed to ask my daddy something like that. Since when do parents pay for half of a hugely expensive mod for their kid's car??????? Is there some sense of entitlement here?
Why don't you work and save up the amount it costs and then see how much an SC means to you. ...probably not as much.

Last question first - not only will you not get your money back out of it, you'll also lose value on the rest of the car because nobody will ever believe that you didn't run it hard. And hard use might show even if you didn't mention the SC (which would be arather dishonest, stereotype-used-car-saleskind of stunt to pull, IMO).
As a parent, I'd certainly invest $3k in my child's future and his/her ability to make something of it. Maybe a third that much on necessary repairs to keep a car going or prevent eviction, depending on circumstances. No more thanabout $300 on a toy or other obvious luxury. BTDT.
As a child, I wouldn't dream of asking my parents for that kind of a handout.

tell me good reasons why its good to supercharge a car
musicheadt 05-08-2008, 04:31 PM I would have to go with the BUY IT YOURSELF approach.....no excuses needed. Then, ask your old man to help you with the install, since he knows a lot about cars, and you are bafffled by his knowledge, and need his wisdom....AND, you miss the quality time hanging out and b'sing with him.........DAMN I"M GOOD! (MY DAD would see righ through this tactic......and just ask me..."will this get us more P***Y?"
I Loved the Mt. St. Helens theory, but if you don't live in Washington State, you are screwed on that one.
Coastal Area?.....The Tsunami argument was good, but will the waves wash up in central Indiana?
I would have to go with the "it might get US laid more" factor......and start dating girls with HOT MOMS (aka MILFS) that loves to have her daughters boyfriend's Dad over for barbeques.

Isn't a wrx allready turbo charged? Look how much a supercharger is for a gto or srt8.
It's a $26,000 car to start, so a $5k supercharger isn't that much to people that can afford this car. I believe you can get a turbo kit for $3500 for this car.

Just like Dream Car Garage: "Do you need a car like that? Nope. But, do you want a car like that? Absolutely." My S/CMustang is still not even close to the fastest thing I own.My Corvette is faster - byquite a bitand my ZX-14 is quicker and faster. I am not even sure it can 0-60 as fast as my "bagger" Valkyrie (it'd be close). But my Mustang can sure whoop up on my Dodge Ram!;)
forensicsteve 05-09-2008, 08:58 AM get a turbo kit for $3500 for this car
intercooled turbo kits are more likely in the 5-6 K range
fakesnake 05-09-2008, 10:15 AM I wanted a supercharged car my whole life and didn't get one until I turned 53. Unless you are already an amazing driver, I seriously doubt you could handle this kind of power. So be sure to take a serious course at skip barbers or Bondurant. Under nearly any conditions the rear wheels break loose in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Any rain and you can easily overpower the car in any gear. But is it a rush? Yeahhhhhhhhhhh. And that is what a mustang is all about, and has always been about. I had a drive in a '71 Boss 351 once that was scary fast like 4000 lb ballistic missile with no brakes and slow steering, and a 68 GT 500 KR with a Nascar motor and twin Holleys that couldn't get traction in any gear. I had a 66 fastback tribute car and always regretted not putting a Paxton NOVI on it. So I would say go for it, but be careful.

ThumperMX113 05-09-2008, 03:31 PM I wish my Dad would pay half for a supercharger !?
ford4v429 05-09-2008, 07:37 PM one comment-
I want a supercharger too, but 3k wont cover it. I dont want it for racing, but for some more bottom end torque(miss that bigblock feel). Racing it wont matter centrifugal/turbo/positive displacement(pretty much boost is boost) but only the positive displacement types will give huge off idle/part throttle torque increase (where you can legally feel it on the street, and not make a lot of noise). I think a 6psi positive displacementblower with a 4k rev limiter would actually be great for everyday driving- even if still only 300 hp, an extra 120 ftlb or so off idle would be enjoyable without beinguncontrollably overkill.
one more comment- not to preach at you, but... I know if I'd of had a blower on anything when I was in my twenties, I probably wouldnt be driving today...I did put a turbo on a 400 sbc in a 69 camaro- luckily it overheated(siamesed bores= not good idea to turbocharge) and cracked the block first time I drove it- but man...what a kick in the pants! Ohyeah, I woulda wrecked it for sure...
