Default swaping 3speed to 4speed

Hey guys im thinking about swaping out my 3 speed for a 4 speed. I found this site 4speedtoploaders.com. For $1795 I can get a new, not refurb toploader. I just wanted to get an opinion if you guys think its worth the money or if anyone has delt with this company.

Hi,

From what I heard here and there, it is not really worth it to switch to 4-speed. You could switch to 5-speed for pretty much the same amount of money/work.

... and those T5 are fun to drive!

David Kees is the man when it comes to toploaders. That said, I don't see a reason to use a brand new toploader. A rebuilt unit will work fine, and you can probably still get them to rebuild one for you for much less than that. They used to sell rebuilt units for $800.

I do agree with Remi in that it's much more cost effective to do a T5 swap in most cases. T5's are cheaper and will do fine behind a stock or mild small block, and in the end the conversionwill probably still cost you less than a brand new toploader.

4 on the floor is the only way. I got a close ratio toploader and man is it fun. Not a DD though.

New 5 spd and short throw shifter.
Toploaders are strong but thats all. The Hurst shifter is junk, like a broom stick in a trash can.

That's a ridiculous statement considering Hurst is the only real option for a toploader (or any other external shifting tranny, for that matter)aside from the factory shifter. I've played with a couple and they've all been very tight with a solid positive engagement. Absolutely nothing wrong with them at all.
