I am in the process of changing the starter on my 65. The one I have now is getting heat soaked. Should I get a mini or a new full size rebuilt one. Will the new full size get heat soaked or is it due to age and wear and tear.

I believe it's because of the wear and tear, but don't quote me on that. I would recommend a full size rebuilt one, but just because I don't really like the Mini's.

Mustangs don't really have the heat soak issues that other cars (ie. GM and Mopar) do. The headers (assuming you have headers) simply don't run that close to the starter like they do in other vehicles. So, you'll be fine with a standard size starter.

That said, I have a PowerMaster PMGR starter and I really like it. It kicks faster than an OE style and it's a lot smaller and lighter, which makes installation nice.

Thats not what I have read. Many people have said that the mustang can have a heat soak problem. My car has an issue with starting when the engine is hot. It cranks slow then all of a sudden gets faster, then starts.

Generally you only get the heat soak issue when the starter is already old and the contacts are worn. With a good new starter, you shouldn't have any problems.

i dont know why you wouldnt. there one on my car and it never fails like the old one.

I've had a mini starter in mine for a couple of years. Love it. No more heat soaked starter under my headers

depends...im assuming you have long tube headers which would cause you to believe it was heat soaked. if so get the mini, it will be much easier to install. i got to learn that one the hard way when my starter went out at 9:00 one night in the parking lot at work. not fun changing that sucker out and trying to get that new one to fit.
