ORIGINAL: ThumperMX113 Ooo, good information. I didn't know that. I wonder if that's the same in the Audis. I dunno how the Audis work or what kind of tune it is, but possibly. For the BMWs, there are two main tunes, a flash (Dinan) or a piggyback (many different companies). To flash the ECU you'd have to know the checksums and encryptions to unlock the ECU and get it to read your unsigned code. That being the case, no one really knows how Dinan got the information they have to make flashes. That's their little secret. The piggybacks are just circuitry that goes in the ECU. It will intercept one signal wire, and send whatever it wants instead. It'll tell the ECU that there are different elevations or temperatures, etc, to trick the ECU into running higher boost, fuel management, etc. Since the BMW engine is has so much less to tune compared to the number of mods people have on Mustangs, there really isn't much need for individual dyno tunes, though now that more mods are coming out, more maps are coming out for the tunes, as well as a supposedly user customizable tuner. It's a completely different setup than I'm used to coming from the Mustang world, but at the same time it's kind of nice for it to be so simple. I've already had a Cobra, so no matter what tune I do on a 335, it's still not going to compare, so I'm really not worried about every ounce of power. Still though, the stock computer runs low boost to give a little more power with basically no turbo lag. Turn it up a little and you'll actually start utilizing the turbos and you can go from 300 BHP to about 330 RWHP with just a tune, 350+ RWHP by adding catless pipes and maybe an intake. Oh hell, who am I kidding. I'm going to dump every penny I have into it to try to make it as fast as possible. [8D] Still, even stock it will run away from an S197 GT, so I'm happy with that to start. [:D]
