Hi everyone,

I just joined the forum and I needed some advice from other 'daily drivers'. I am almost at the end of restoring my 1966 coupe, and I need to get her insured so I can get her on the road. Does anyone have recommendations for a good insurance company that covers daily driven classic cars? She is absolutely gorgeous and I need a lot of reassurance! I don't have a garage but I live in a safe neighborhood and I'll only be driving her about 5 miles a day to work and back.

What is that next to your front wheel in the 2nd picture? It looks like a chicken to me.

When I called Grundy they only offered me "Show Car" insurance. He said I could not drive the car to K Mart to pick something up.

I am insured with Allstate which has all my policies. I have full coverage with no restrictions under a seperate "Specialty Auto" policy. I am paying about $300 a year for it.

Thanks for the advice. (The chicken next to the tire is my Siamese cat, she's determined to scratch up the new paint job).

I realized that was a cats tail after I logged off.

Your interior looks great by the way. I am a huge fan of Fog Lights, I just added them to my car.

Get the car appraised so they can't dick you around.Insurace comes down if your going to drive it daily or its a limited mileage car.Insurance is different agent to agent so if your happy with what you got use them and make sure your cars covered on what it would cost to replace it not what they think its worth.

You guys are too funny. We do live in the sticks, but no chickens currently running around. Yeah, I'm going to get her appraised. I don't currently have insurance since my last car was totaled by a woman who decided to pull an illegal U-turn across four lanes traffic. I've been without a vehicle while the Mustang has been restored. As soon as she is finished (hopefully in two weeks) I am going to call Allstate and see what they offer.

hey sorry to thread steal,

but i have a 67 i want to insure daily. i have state farm insurance with my dads old college roomate.

we get a good deal on our house and auto combined,

but im worried about insurance, i used to drive a 2001 mustang GT convertible. and i drive a jeep wrangler now and my insurance is about 150 a month. with two tickets on my license.

any clue how much i can expect to pay if they even grant me insurance on the car. is it normally expensive to insure a basic mustang as a daily driver?

its just a plain jane 289 67 coupe. no options.

You might want to contact American Collectors Insurance Co, Cherrry Hill, NJ 08002, telephone 800-360-2277.  I have a 1966 convertible in excellent condition that I've had insured thru them for about 20 years.  Fortunately I've never had to file a claim but they came highly recommended from some friends of mine who own many antique autos and this is who they insure all their antiques with.
When you apply for insurance thru them they will ask you for several recent photos of the car, the odometer reading and will let you state your value for it. 
My current stated value on my car is $15500. and I pay $118.00 per year for full liability($300,000.), uninsured motorists insurance, comprehensive insurance, spare parts and towing.  No collision coverage.  They automatically increase your cars value every 3 months based on an inflation factor.
Their policy includes a maximum of 2500 miles driven per year, anywhere,  which I've never come close to going over. Each year when you renew they will ask you for the current odometer reading.
