hey everyone. well after finally deciding to replace the piece of crap cassete player from my stang and bought a used cd player from a friend. theres a squere thing with a thick grey wire on it and i got the cd player running but no sound and i am pretty sure thats the speaker wires. i just want to know if inside the thick grey wire is filled the speaker wires or is there nothing but copper in it. cause i dont want to screw it all up. if someone can post a pic of wat think im talking can u plz post. im at skol right now so i cant till later on. thanks.
now im sure that last post contained all the information you wanted, but for ****s and giggles ill try and add my two cents now as well.
i couldnt tell you what you mean by the "big grey wire" but i will tell you that the only big wire i know of is the antenna. now depending on what type of stock system you have, ford makes it quite tough to replace just the stock head unit and have everything else just keep on chugging along.
but the best suggestion i can offer without knowing too many of the specifics is that you'll need the white connector with all the wires coming out of it that sticks to the back of the head unit. they are company specifc, so if you have an alpine head unit, you have to call up alpine and say, "hello i have model #1234567 and i need the wiring harness." you also need the wiring harness for whatever year mustang you have, chances are it is ford specific. you can get this at either best buy, circuit, or ebay, etc. then you get to have fun soldering all the matching colors together and then you stick THAT into the white connecty thingy that originally was jammed into the back of your factory stereo
please note that i spoke as simply as possible, figuring you are new to this stuff
bob please limit your responces to subj that you know about and quit telling people that crutchfield, best buy and CC are going to fix thier systems. The mach system does not need to be gutted and if you take a quick look at page 2 of my cardomain page it explains it. I have had 3 people print that page and then take their cars back to BBY to have then fix what they swore could not be done.
More info is better as long as we don't lead them astray. Leading them into BBY is nothing short of leaving a cheese trail to a rat trap.

thanks. yea sry that i sounded like a total newb, but i was in a hurry to type everything down and didnt get a chance to revise it. but i did cut open the wire and got all the speakers working. and yes i do know how to spell school. i just like typing it that way.
If I had a choice if you could give bad advise, or no advise, I will pick no. His post certainly didn't do anything to help, but they also didn't do anything that could hurt him. The mach system is a little funny to work with and can be a little particular if you don't know what you are doing. Please feel free to chime in when you are 100% sure of the info you are giving but we have alot of problems keeping people on the right path when everyone chimes in.

Reach your hand into the hole in the dash where the radio was, and feel where the trans hump is. That metal box is the amplifier it has two plugs on it, both are on the back side, one on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. It takes some skill/sweat/bloody knuckles but unplug the one on the passenger side and pull on it slightly. Now go to a stereo shop and tell them you need a Ford Amp Bypass harness. (I think its metra part number 70-5521) but I cannot recall right now. It comes with a Power plug (Grey Plug) a speaker plug for the amplified system (not going to be used although it will fit your original application, trust me you dont want to use this plug) and a Amp Jumper plug. One end of the amp jumper plug will plug into the harness you disconnected from the factory amp. the other end will be cut off. Now you have 4 speaker leads and your power harness, wire it all up and you have just installed your radio and bypassed the factory POS amp. Have a great day.
if you look at page 2 of my cardomain page, it shows where the bypass hrns is(i literally point at it). It is directly next to the radio and then does not require the bypass hrns, just the standard 70-1770 standard ford hrns.
