I have a 2000 Silver convertible, black top, all black interior. Originally I was planning on getting the black w/ chrome lip bullitt replica's but then this idea spawned on me.
To get the black s style wheels and put a red stripe around them. But first I want to know if anyone knows of a good way to do it, I was thinking about using dupli-colors marker for wheels to put it on but does it show/hold well? Anyone with experience using the markers, or anyone know of a better way to get that red stripe?
But anyways do you think it will look good? Here is a rough photoshop on a pic of a silver car I found with the rims.
Kind of a nice look, but anything other than powder coat, will not hold up for a DD.
Now my typical answer to "what do you think of..." questions....... Who cares what I think, it is your car :)

I love it, I just want to figure out a good way to do it and was curious to know what others thought. But what is the correct name for the stripe, are there kits of them or anything?
This is what I was talking about before...

OK, so you want to put the stripe on the tire, not the rim? Well, either way, you will have to touch up color occasionally. The rim will last longer, butis less permanent than tire if you should change your mind on how it looks.
Go for it :)

Well how can I get it on the rim? Just rim paint and masking it off?

I guess so. I have only heard of pepes wanting to paint rims, but not heard feedback as to how it was done, or came out. I will be difficult to do while tire is on rim, and even more so while wheel is still on the car.

I like the chrome lip idea better.

Well I'd get them from American Racing. How much does it cost if I just go to a shop and ask them to mount tires on rims? I'm thinking I'll just order them, have American Racing mount them on and do the dupli-color pen because that'll be easy with the tires on the rims. If it's ****ty i can always remove the tires, paint it the right way, then have them put back on.

You mean have the wheels shipped to you with tires already installed? If so, then it would not be difficult to color the wheel with pens prior to mounting onto car. Although, I think thatit will look better and be more durable to paint rim PRIOR to having tires mounted. The only issue would be how well the paint or penswould last under DD circumstances. As far as cost to mount tires onto your wheels, you will have to ask the shop you want to use. Would be a good idea to run your thoughts on painting/coloring rims and if their tire machine scuff your color.
I think your safest bet would be to just color the wheels after tires are mounted and you could always touch it up as needed.

Yeah, because American Racing mounts them for free. I'm just going to do that and use the pen. I figure I can just use one piece of tape going around the outside of the rim then just one thickness of the pen all the way around. As long as it can hold up for a couple months, I'm ok with re-doing it since it'll be an easy job.

Get a paint pen.
Jack the car up.
Spin the tires and pick a point.
It will create a perfect circle when its spinning.
