Cleaning my wheel.

Alright well I have a lot of break dust & dirt on my Front driver's side wheel from when my brake callipers were frozen.  I've replaced the brakes and now need some tips for getting them clean.   I've used terry cloths, a heavy dish sponge and 2 different soaps and it's still not getting them clean.  Any ideas?

Just wanted to say I got the 99 stock rims.

If your wheels are clearcoated, go buy a good brand wheel cleaner (not one that contains muradic acid!!!!), spray it on, rub with a soft bristle brush, and hose off.  If its just brake dust then that should do the trick.

If your wheels are raw, polished aluminum then you will need some Mothers Aluminum Polish, a lot of elbow grease, and some patience [;)]

when i still had my stock 99s on i used the mothers mag and alum. polisha nd it worked good but i would try some obsessive detail metal RX

Alright cool drivin to Napa now, not alum. so I'm going to pick a decent wheel cleaner.   I've been using elbow grease for the past 3 months I had my car it just won't come off.  I just want to try to get rid of it now cause I'm pending a sale on her to get the cobra. [:D]

also try not to leave the wheel cleaner on. a PH balanced one like the axe man said should be alright, but i like to be on the safe side.


you might want to try some simple green all purpose cleaner diluted 3:1. you can let that "soak" for about a minute depending on the heat, but i wouldn't let it dry

Try some Simple Green at a dilution, let it break down, and use a mit with some car wash soap and water to scrub it off. It should fix you right up. If you want to prevent something like that happening again use a wheel sealant like Poorboy's Wheel Sealant or a synthetic wax like Meguiars NXT or Meguiars #21.
