Trying to decide whether to upgrade my shaker 500 stereo system with the Saleen Rockford
Fosgate 12" sub. Anyone happy with the shaker 1000? How loud is it? Any complaints?

I have never found a stock stereo to my standards. I yanked that Shaker 500 outta there as soon as I bought my car. You will be wiser to replace the entire stereo system than try to "fix" the one you have by upgrading sub. The mids/highs will then sound crappy by comparison [:'(]

I think you'll be disappointed with the shaker 1000.

If you're just looking to throw a little more bass in your car, just get a mono amp and throw a sub in the back. It sounds pretty good.

Now if you want to go all out.....I agree with Jazzer...go aftermarket and make sure to replace the head unit, ALL speakers, and add a separate dedicated amplifier to power them. I've heard lots of complaints with the shaker 1000....and I wouldn't spend that much on a factory system when you can use the same dollars and get a better product aftermarket.

I'm running a Kicker Solobaric 8" in my car and it hits hard despite having to penetrate through a convertible top. That's the biggest that would fit in my car and still give me some trunk space. (Don't be fooled by the 8" size....it's square so it covers roughly the same surface as a 10". The solobaric's require a lot of power but hit harder than many 10 or 12" subs.)

Saleens come with the Shaker 500, not 1000.  The 500 uses 8" subs in the door, and the 1000 adds a double 10" box in the trunk.  I would think the Rockford 12" would do better.  You should look into MTX as well....I added the MTX Thunderform 12" in my trunk and love it.  The built in amp is designed for either speaker level input or line level, and it comes with the splice kit and simple directions to tie into the factory wires that are routed under the rear seat cushion [:D]  The amp is fully adjustable for xover frequency and of course gain - so it can be as tight or loose and as loud or quite as you want it.

IMO it is the best factory system I have ever owned or heard.  It leaves me no desire to make any other changes to it.  I love the multi disc and MP3 capablity, and the system provides plenty of power to the full range speakers while keeping up nicely with the MTX sub.  Now that I am past my "california smile" (EQ settings) days, it sounds as good as any complete aftermarket system that I built up back in the day [sm=icon_rock.gif]

We ordered the Rockford upgrade in ours and we love it. As mentioned above, if you're serious, you'll want to do something aftermarket. But if you're Joe Average, like us, just looking for some good sound while you're cruising, we'd buy the Rockford again.

On the other hand, it's like I tell my son, why do you even care if you have a radio when you can drive around and listen to your pipes rumble?

Actually mine came with a 1000 straight from the dealer...wasn't a dealer add on either mwahahahaha [8D]

And as far as the sound goes....I love my 1000...I'm not a sterio freak by any means...but it sounds great. The only thing I would suggest is dynomat...cause little rattles will begin to develope...anyone else had small "rattles"? lol

Jazzer The Cat -> RE: Rockford Fosgate subwoofer (5/7/2008 11:52:14 AM)

Sorry to hear about your small...... (huhummm) "rattle" there cb [8|]

As for CAR rattles, I am surprised every bolt has not backed out and fallen onto the ground with all the power I am running in the VIXN [8D]

I have the 1000 in my GT and love it! Best Ford radio I've ever had. A friend of mine bought the RF sub for his Saleen (which they, Rockford, said would beat the 1000 / it doesn't!) and was very disappointed. He pulled it out and put the MTX in and is very happy with it. Sounds almost as good as my 1000!

I have rattles... But it's kind of expected with a 1000 RMS watt sub [:D]

S281 E -> RE: Rockford Fosgate subwoofer (5/9/2008 10:36:11 PM)

I got the 1000 as well and I'm pleased with it, but than again I think I have turned the radio on twice since I have had the car. I prefer to hear the sound of the twin screw.

+1

I had an 06 GT with a shaker 1000 and now I have an 07 E with the RF and I don't think it sounds as good.
