Here's the dilemma (sort of). The group I get together with on weekends was talking about bunch of **** because of a race that went down recently. The two cars were a 2006 STI and a 70 Nova. The STI can't run anything but 110 leaded or race gas. The Nova on the other hand is a big tire/tube chassis/carb'd big block car, BUUUT it runs on pump gas. Guy in the Nova says his isn't actually a race car, because he goes to the gas station, puts 92 in, goes to McD's to pick up a McFlurry and drives to Walmart to buy groceries in the thing.
On the other hand the STI has to go to the track and pick up a drum of 110 to drive, but is a stock chassis car.
To me, the argument made sense both ways, because if you HAVE to run race gas then the bitch is a race car, but if you can drive a big block/tube chassis/ big tire car around then it's a street car.

Yeah, my opinion is the same as yours, if you have to run race gas then it's a race car.

All it would take is for the STi to de-tune a little bit and run pump gas. My definition of race/street car is pretty loose.
Is it street legal?
If yes, then you are a street car. It gets a little looser towards the really fast end of the spectrum though. I would consider both street cars.

could the car run hot rods drag week? no? not a street car.
yes? that sucka's a street car. there was a fiberglass body/tube chassis nova that won the first year. next year it was a 800+ci duster that ran nearly a 7. pump gas.
if you can pick up the kids from school, fill up at hess, and stop for a burger, its a street car.

Did the Nova lose and that's why he brought up the "street vs race" car? If so, he is just coming up with something to soothe the ego.

Actually the Nova smoked the STI and it was the other way around lul. He said "Man, that **** wasn't fair, he brought a race car." Then carnage ensued.
Long story short the kid in the STI got called out for having to run race gas while the Nova could basically be driven daily on pump gas. I'll get a vid real fast of this thing running 10's after letting out of it completely at the 1000' mark.

yeah. but its still covering some good stuff, seen some really neat cars, like a performance built model A that had a Cogsworth motot in it, but disguised to look like a Flathead 4, with a special computer that dropped every 3rd spark to make it sound like a flathead 4... and aluminum spoked wheels painted to look like wood... hahah
now if only the Drag week were to make its way back to the North east haha

Noble I thought was the location in Oklahoma where they have a Buick vs Ford event every year. I'm going this year and maybe I'll match up against some GM muscle.

imo, a race car=a totally non street legal car that is raced and/or a car that regularly races in specific sanctioned events. cars that blur the line that r street legal and race in sanctioned events, like some of the street class cars in the NHRA, should be considered street/strip cars.

put it this way...my buddy that works at a body shop has a 91 hatch with a 509bb, 2stgs of n20, a 1250 carb, a pwr glide trans, 4.64 grs, full electronics, race seat (just 2) nhra roll cage w/ halo, tubbed, wheelie bars, parachute, and headlights, taillights, blinkers, and the radio works....He drives it 2 times a week on 87 octane to work (20'ish miles round trip...) still has tags, and insurance... Trailers it to the track on the wkend and runs 6.3x's w/out the n20 onpump gas.... Its a street car-- hands down... If you can drive it and not worry about finding a gas station, or recharging a battery and if all your electronics work... It's a street car.... Race car's can be streetable as well just depends how hard you wanna beoncertain built motors and so on...
"We as DD'in mustang owners can put parachutes on our mustangs and ppl would think we had race cars"...... maybe :eek:LOL
