Antenna Alternatives, Stub?

Last summer I put in a USA66 radio utilizing the existing antenna, but the AM/FM reception in the city is horrible. 

I recently ordered a hide-away amplified antenna hoping to improve reception but have yet to install it.

Since I will not be utilizing my partially collapsable antenna I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution, short of patching and repainting the fender, to minimize the antenna appearance? 

Is there an antenna available that can fit in the fender cut-out and fully collapse?

Shave that junk![:D] Thats what I did on my 66 is ditched it entirely and it looks great.

I have seen but don'r remember where electric antenna's that drop down flush with the fender.

Please post the results of your new antenna after it's installed. I have the same problem with my after market radio and my stock antenna. The reception sucks so I use my IPod.

I belive this is the antenna you were referring to. 
The problem is I would have to fill my current antenna hole which is too large...in which case I would just shave the antenna off completely.
I am not sure how this antenna keeps water out of the fender...

I would go with a fully retractable power antenna, but from what I understang I would have to pull the fender and/or water shields which is a bit more work than I would like to take on.

There are two other possible options I am thinking of that may work to minimize the appearance of the antenna:

1) Fully Collapsable Antenna

2) Replace antenna with a painted rubber/plastic cap

Does anyone know where I can find either of these?

i have a fully collapsible antenna. bought it from npd a few years ago. sounds like i did what youre lookngt to do. i made sure i mounted the antenna (didnt require removng the fender, would make it easier, but not NECESSARY) just open the door and slide it in the gap, made sure antenna has no power, just not plugged in, so its always down, and then i hd an antenna under the dash. makes for good radio and a clean look.

that sounds perfect.  the only problem is I cannot find a collapsable antenna for my car anywhere.

What year is it for? I have one in my garage right now for my 66 and can't use it (I have no antenna hole[:D])... It is a fully retractable ... i think it looks like the one in the picture....

It has been in the garage... I took it out of a box in my trunk when I bought the car along with a new radio so I assume it is new just dirty from sitting in my garage[:D]?

take james stangs... buy a new bezel and do what i did... sounds like an excellent setup. should be just what ur going for.

Did you say you have a standard type attenna under the dash? I have repop fenders and I didn't put any hole in them for the attenna. I currently don't even have a radio but I was considering putting one in. If I do I don't want an attenna so I was gonna go with the ipod or CD only, however we have a local drive-in that my wife likes to go to and they broadcast on a radio station rather than speakers. Anyway, long story short, I want a radio but no attenna visible, does a standard attenna under the dash work well?

youll get light static from time to time, but yea. standard antenna hidden under dash will work better than no antenna at all. or even an antenna wire like some cars use, wire it for a distance within the car somewhere. try to keep as much of it as possible away from other lengths of wiring, because of interferance, but i have no problems.
