I just went and got my Mustang from where I keep it parked and while driving home it started popping and backfiring around 3000 rpm. Its never done that before and when I drove it a week and a half ago it ran fine and had plenty of power with no backfiring. Now its popping and backfiring and shooting smoke out the tailpipes when it backfires.
What happened? Could something have gotten wet and just needs to dry out? It rained a few times while it was parked (outside) but I dont know what wouldve gotten wet. The plugs and wires and brand new (about 200 miles on them) so I doubt its an issue with them.
I was planning on taking the car to the drag track for some time trials tonight and still want to but cant if I dont fix this problem.
could be a bad injector...or bad maf....mine popped also around 3000 like when i'd mash the throttle so i cleaned my maf sensor and i put some of this fuel system cleaner in ran it to bout a 1/4 tank... filled it with 93 like i always do car runs mint...

I think something might have gotten wet because it rained last week when it was parked and it ran fine when I parked it and it ran fine again after the issue.
