Hey, just thought I'd post this site I found. Just recently got myself an 02 Mustang V6 and I had my stereo system from my last car and decided to put it in. Right now, I have the Alpine IDA-X001 head unit installed and I got Alpine Type R 6x9s and 5.25s along with an Alpine PDX 4.100 amplifier for the speakers. Just need to save some money to get a nice wiring kit. Anyways, here's that site that might help some people. Much better than paying other people to do it for you in my opinion.

Its mainly for the 2000-2004 Mustangs, but I'd imagine the principles would be the same in the other generations too. One thing I do know, if you do it yourself and this site helps, make sure to follow the steps carefully because the wiring does get a little tricky mostly just because of the multiple wires being soldered or crimped into the main ground wire. Its really not too bad, helped me get the install done in a relatively short time and it sounds good. I myself like the Subwoofer Bass Controller that I can actually use now. But one thing to make sure of is the wiring harness you use. I know there are a few different ones out there, but the one I used was the Metra harness for the premium sound system. I'm not sure if the other harnesses will work, but you'll probably need the one that has the Red/White plug things attached to one of the parts that plugs into the factory harness. For me, I had to have that part in specific. I plugged everything all in, and thankfully before I put everything back together, I tested it. No bass. Forgot to plug those Red/White plugs into the back of my head unit. Plugged them in on the bottom set of the 3 preamp spots because thats where the subwoofer ones go, bass worked perfect. So if anyone has had problems with previous installs or can't figure out how to do it or something, this site may help you. It helped me. Good Luck.

the only problems with the way they show it is that the 2.5: tweeters are going to be playing full range which will cause them to blow.  The factory amps like a little hotter input then most decks like to put out so I always recommend using a line driver.  Page 2 of my cardomain page shows how I did it.  He went into a little more depth and it is more complete.

Well, it worked for me pretty good. My head unit works pretty good and I plan on swapping out the speakers as soon as I have enough money for a nice amp wiring kit, but its pretty good for now. From other people on random sites I've heard they had problems with the "popping" after installing a new head unit, but eh, I haven't noticed anything different except for more sound control and they push a bit harder. If that is a possibility with the tweeters blowing, I guess you might wanna be a little more careful or try using what your cardomain page says. But as for me, I'm not too worried about blowin em because I got a couple pairs of Alpines to back em up, just need the amp wiring kit to hook em up... If anyone is looking for a good set of speakers, I'd go with the Alpine Type R's but thats just me. I think they sound good and they handle the bass better than the stock Mach 460 sound system. I do have to say this much though, out of all the vehicles I've been in with stock systems, the Mach 460 is the best I've heard so far.

you will need to bypass the amps if you install any speakers in the car.  The stock woofers are an 8 ohm speaker and most car audio is 4 ohm.
