AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa

S2Charlie -> AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/6/2008 9:22:56 PM)

So I see a nice BMW driving behind me on a 55mph road out east... so I think... ok, I'm hungry, I NEVER antagonize a race so I figured I'd change lanes and if he wanted a shot I'd let him go for it. 2 seconds after I change lanes I see him coming up quick and I can't neutralize, but I figured ok, he got the jump... I can still take him. So we pull up to a light I'm right behind him and I'm not sure if he's gonna let me try again. I start off cautiously and I see he's starting slow so I let my guard down. I had no idea these babies are factory twin turboed, if I woulda known he was lagging I woulda taken advantage of it. From about 0-80 giving him the jump by 40 he had like 4 cars and by 80 it was getting closer but I wasn't gonna push it any higher on this road (55mph with traffic lights about every 1/4 mile). God I wish I knew more about this car before the run, you guys think I would've had a shot if we went from a dig? I think I woulda got him, but lag aside, he had me. Oh if you didn't figure it out by now, it was a 335xi

You might have a chance...Depends on how far/fast you wanna race. Gotta get some length on him before the turbos kick in.

MustangMadness7 -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/6/2008 10:54:18 PM)

Yeah, you woulda taken him.  It would have been close though.  The 335i's are no joke... and just fyi, that turbo "lag" goes away at 1700 RPM[8D]

SINISTER -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 2:53:59 AM)

Also depends on what all was done to the 335.  A simple tune can get those cars into the mid 12's.

Red Turbo Integra -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 6:17:47 AM)

I'm not sure what the deal is with some cars and turbo lag? I mean, if I wanted to launch my car and not have any lag, I just launched right under the area before I hit full boost. It maybe took 1 second before I hit full boost. When I was on the highway, I would just downshift and I was there. I never got turbo lag unless I wanted it. (It feels kinda cool to feel it go from no power to lots of it, I gained over 100 whp with in 1k rpms)

AmericanSpeed -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 6:37:45 AM)

If he was stock, you would have taken him. My brother has the 335i coupe.  With CAI + tune, I was taking him at the track all day (his best was a 13.31 stock),  he got  the vishnu tune (he's running a beta version 2.3 or something)  and he has definently picked up some power, highest trap now has been 110, where his highest trap stock was 104.  Have you ever seen a dyno graph for these cars?  trust me, they have no turbo lag.

Yeah, twin turbos are made to eliminate turbo lag.

bluebeastsrt -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 9:07:18 AM)

Hard to imagine a 335i having turbo lag. They have pretty small turbos to start with. It's the real big boys that you'll see alot of lag. A also doubt you would have reeled in a turbo car up top, thats where they make all their power.

Not going to happen when up against a Twin turbo BMW. They have 100% TQ from 1700 RPM to near redline, translation, zero turbo lag. Same goes for almost any new 06+ factory twin turbo vehicle. I think Volvo also has a twin turbo motor in 07 or 08 same thing. 1800 RPM and up it's 100% TQ.

Funny thing is the new BMW i135 will be faster than the 335i with the same motor. (it's lighter).

And it not just the fact that its got twin turbos that elimate turbo lag, it's the their size. The fact it has twin turbos allow them to use two smaller turbos instead of one big one. If you got two larger turbos put in instead of the two smaller ones, that TQ curve would shift to the higher RPM range.

Turbo cars do 'top out' Look at the WRX it loses steam above 80-90 mph. STi is a different story although it still loses steam it's closer to when most cars would have already backed off 120+

S2Charlie -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 9:57:53 AM)

That doesn't make any sense... he got out after the light real slow and then really started moving, maybe he just waited a second to jab the pedal but I wasn't expecting it. He mus've been stock thou cause I was absolutely reeling him in (albeit slowly) as we were both WOT

Stock for stock your Gt and the Bimmer should be a drivers race. With your mods I guess it would be possible to reel him in slowly.

EaZy DuZ iT -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 10:27:40 AM)

with his mods he shouldnt have any problems with a stock 335xi

cacimar -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 10:31:06 AM)

335i are the new european supras, they are just a tad more luxury [:)]

Damn right! The ipod adaptor and sequential lights should have put him over the top [:D]

All kidding aside, he should have put a few cars on the bmw. Can't think of why the race happened like that unless he didn't loss or has a horrible reaction time. Either way I think you would have reeled him unless he had a tune or more mods. But then again who races past 100mph? [&:]

LOL it's not like those mods turn him into a 12 second car in the hands of most people.

EaZy DuZ iT -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 11:14:34 AM)

yea well, seeing hes automatic i didnt feel like there was much error

bluebeastsrt -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 11:23:23 AM)

Your not roll racing when your shooting for  12s, or 13s or 14s etc, etc. A Stock auto is usally slower when your racing for real and not playing on the street.

USMCrebel -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 11:43:32 AM)

i read through all these posts only to realize BMW has an AWD car?

S2Charlie -> RE: AWD Turbo Laggin Sunnofa (5/7/2008 2:31:44 PM)

Lol... I lost because I started from BEHIND him... I was surrounded by cars so I had to give him a jump or I woulda been in his bumper. Usually when a car has an "x" in the model in the model it is all wheel drive (BMW xi, G35x ect.) But after his head start... it was already over.

335xi is AWD.
