Um i have a 2001 gt mustang not that it matters but i have 245/35/z19 tires on there and the max air pressure is 51. I want to know what i should inflate them to? They're currently pretty low ones 28 ones 30 ones 32 and the others 30.
i dont know too much about tires, but if thy are the stock size ones, it should say on the gas cap cover or door jam? on what psi to fill tires to. never fill it to the max though obviously.
I do 35psi in my stang, and 45 in my truck. i tihnk 35 is the norm not sure though

Hmm i see well they aren't stock their low profile tires with aftermarket rims so yeah. I filled them up to 45, 6 under the max seems a bit stiffer of a ride but i hear it saves gas to?
yeah, i keep mine around 35psi and i have 265/40/17's. its not an extremely low profile tire, but its def not stock. but as stated earlier, your air pressure is going to increase with heat, and you also dont have as much volume of air in your tires as that of a higher profile tire, so therefore its going to heat up quicker, and will change quicker. so i would def back it down from the 45 mark and stick with something between 35-40

I was avoiding this thread with a passion as I turn wrenched for a living. I am going to follow it though and see what happens now. I have had a long running feud with this question.
If you watch all of the "how to" crap on the tube, they always tell you to go with what is on your door-jam. I think this is a bunch of BS. The sticker on the door jam is for the tires that came on the car. If you have changed to something different, why would you not listen to the tire manufacturer? I mean, They are the ones that made the tires, they should know the best operating pressure.
Also, the tire makers have taken the heating up issue under consideration as you will notice that on the tires, they say, inflate to....max..COLD ! They realize that after being driven that they will heat up and pressures will rise and that is where they came up with this number from. 51 is an awful odd number though. Are you sure that's not metric?
Think about this...if the tire says you can operate at 50psi cold and your tire blows because of excessive pressure, they are lible to get sued. You think they would take that chance? Another thing is that tires operated at too low a pressure will build more heat in thew sidewalls....NOT GOOD !
This is what got Ford into trouble with the vans. People with under inflated tires and over loaded, created too much heat and blew the sidewalls.....that and operator error.
Almost forgot!..I would put 45-50 in them and watch how they wear...you will be able to tell if you are right by how they wear. You want lo-pro's...you get stiff ride.
