View Full Version : Calipers that wont brake the bank
94gtbuilder 05-06-2008, 09:48 PM Pun Intended. Really tho, I don't want to buy a damn brake kit just to have cool looking calipers. Slotted Rotors are not that expensive, but I just cant find calipers by themelves that would work as a stock replacement, and new rotors without the calipers doesnt look nearly as nice. I did think about painting my old ones but they look like crap and I dont know if they'd look that much better painted. It probably helps that I want them black soo it wont show imperfections as much tho. Soo does anyone know where to get some cool looking OEM fit brake calipers for a 94-95 stang. If not, would the paint look ok on my old ones, and should I buy a caliper paint kit or are there better ways to do it. It would most definetly be cheaper than new calipers and certainly better than paying 2 grand for brakes when all u want is the appearance. Thanks
briansgonnawin 05-06-2008, 10:16 PM I wouldnt see a need to get after market brakes if you arent going to get bigger wheels or F/I your car.
I dont know anything about replacement calipers but i can talk about painting a bit:D
Well if you just want it black, one of those brake caliper paint kit from autozone is just fine.
You gotta make sure to prep it right, youll probably have to lightly sand the surface, clean off the surface with soap or some thinnner/grease remover and make sure its dry before you shoot it. and make sure to not do any heavy coats because that will run the paint, longer to dry etc
94gtbuilder 05-06-2008, 10:34 PM Alright, I'll proabably do just that then. However I would like to know what F/I your car means.... Maybe I wish to do that as well, whatever it may be.
briansgonnawin 05-06-2008, 10:42 PM O F/I = Forced induction, Supercharge/Turboing your car
because with alot of power your going to get into situations where your going to need good braking
ryan1994mustang 05-06-2008, 11:51 PM for my 94, i picked up some drilled/slotted rotors and painted the calipers with the duplicolor kit. i think it made a world of difference in the appearance of the wheel wells. i think i spent about $200 on rotors and then whatever the install was, and the caliper paint kit is like $20 from autozone or somewhere. so overall it was about $300 when it was all said and done. i cant find a closeup of my wheels before, but there is a picture of my car before, and a picture of the wheels/brakes after.

94gtbuilder 05-07-2008, 01:11 AM That does rather nice. I will more than likely do that until i actually want the bigger brakes. Until then I'll probably just get some brembo rotors and paint my calipers. I am curious to see what a pair looks like black tho, as far as the Duplicolor kit goes which I'm assuming is what you used Ryan. That actually does look pretty damn good. haha especially for $20.
ryan1994mustang 05-07-2008, 09:06 AM yeah, i used the duplicolor kit. it took me like 4 hours, but i took my time and made sure they were very clean and put like 4 light coats on them. but im very happy with the results. im sure the black would look good on your car, because the red would clash.
ewgoetz 05-07-2008, 10:31 AM You can always upgrade your front brakes to cobra brakes by going to a junkyard and getting the front ones from a wrecked cobra. Cost me about $200 Plus I bought a new braded hose kit from sumit for the front and back. Did the work myself.

You may need to get a bigger rim than the stock gt rim but I am not possitive on that.
94gtbuilder 05-07-2008, 01:10 PM Post some pics up ewgoetz. Wanna see how good it looks.
ewgoetz 05-07-2008, 02:31 PM I'll post them up tommorrow. My car is at home atm and is in need of either a new oil pressure sensor or guage.......or hopin is not the case a rebuild.
94gtbuilder 05-07-2008, 03:28 PM Just when its getting warm out too. Anyways, appreciate it man.

Here ya go. Looks good, easy install, low price. What more could you ask for? I mean, besides a real brake upgrade.
94gtbuilder 05-07-2008, 09:08 PM That is very cool, and has been put in my favorites for me to purchase. I'd never seen anything like that. Thanks man

just paint the stock rear ones.
94gtbuilder 05-07-2008, 10:19 PM those are cool as well, but the others are a lot cheaper

those are cool as well, but the others are a lot cheaper
ya but those are fake covers.
you get a better looking caliper as well as a better performing caliper as they are 2 piston cobra calipers vs the 1 piston stockers.
they really are notthat expensive either.
94gtbuilder 05-08-2008, 04:32 PM They're 400 dollars but thats a good point about them being a better caliper, and they have th pony logo. The rear set is only 200 tho. But painting the rear ones would look good too.
ronsfun96gt 05-08-2008, 10:59 PM I used the $20 caliper kit from autozone about 2 yrs. ago. If you take your time and paint them neatly, they really look good. Then about every 6 months i just touch them up
ronsfun96gt 05-08-2008, 11:01 PM oh yeh, my son painted his calipers also on his DD. Even with the winter salt they hold up pretty well. He touches them up every so often.
