Hey ya'll. My mustangs running swell now after its little spout earlier last month.

So now im looking around at the local pick and pulls for a standard transmition for the stang. Im gathering a list of all the things i need to get for the swap from auto to standard(since the auto is just crap) and my freind id need a new flywheel.

Normally this wouldnt be a problem as i can just buy one. But then he remembered that you need to balance them or ill be shaking to peices on the highway.

He also noted that they balance the flywheel with the crank, and that the engine has to be pulled to do that....

I'm not taking out the engine unless im doing a swap. Which i dont plan on doing.

So is there any way around the balancing issue? or am i boned to take out the engine and get it overwith?

I just had mine done at Ford(the only place around me that would) and they dropped the tranny. I have an auto.

No, you don't need to get it balanced as long as its from a 2.3 lima engine. Unlike other 4 cylinder the lima is fully, internally balenced. It dosen't need a jack shaft or a balencer

Well i was planning on buying a new flywheel and clutch, but just use the trans, pedal body junk, bell housing, and linkage from the car. The rest new.

Also, does anyone know what kinda bell housing ill need to bolt up to my engine?

A 2.3 T5 transmission bellhousing (the 5.0 is larger)

so if i go to the yard and drop any 2.3l tranny it should bolt up fine?

And for the flywheel, what am i looking for in terms of size/style/what kind?

Yeah it will bolt up. I think they only used the T5 as the manual in 4bangers.

The Flywheel depends on your bank account. Manual tranny flywheels are over $300 for a Motorcraft one. If you have the money I would get one that weighs much less, and might be the same price as a Motorcraft part.

so i should look for a flywheel made for a lima engine then? if im getting this right? as it wont need balancing...unless this has all flown over my head

Thanks sleeper.

On a side note, any solid ways to tell if your parking brake is stuck in the on position partially asides from it slowing you down a bit and the hint at it because things are weird? Also would that cause a check engine light? mine came on tonight after i was bagging it a bit doing stuff, and it would come on and off once in a while, since it was after the suspicion of the brake being on i thought it could possibly be that? The rear drums were kinda hot when i parked, but obviously thats going to happen anyways. But they werent stupidly hot, so i doubt it was really on.

Go to a hill with a sight slope, put the car at a dead stop drop it to nutral and see if it rolls, if not your brakes are sticking.

Pull codees because the CEL means something has gone wrong and its stored as a code inside the computer

Check/clean your EGR valve. They can stay closed or open sometimes and flash the "check engine" light when they are in need of cleaning or replacing.

How do you go about cleaning the egr? I've replaced them in other vehicles, but never cleaned them. Sorry if this is a bit of a thread jack.

On my truck I would take it off and place the valve on the pavement and step on the sides(so I didn't mess up the sensor, and because I couldn't move it with my hands) then spray some WD-40 in it and pump it quite a few times. That would last a few months before I would have to do it again.

I don't know if that's really how you clean one but that's how I did it.
