my back bumper was repainted and the stupid body shop cant tell me what black was on there before, so now i dont want them touching my car and the bumper is one color. Someone also told me the other day that saleen uses krylon semi-flat black spray cans. Does anyone know if this is true or what they use exactly? Can i do this myself? thanks in advance

Are you asking about the lower blackout that's between the exhaust tips?
Yes, you can do it yourself. Tape off the indent, make sure the area is clean, and spray it with a satin or semi-gloss black automotive trim paint.
Not sure what Saleen Inc used, but anything that's not gloss or flat black would look right.

Yep, it's a semi-flat / semi-gloss black. Automotive trim black or Krylon 1613 works well...

thanks s281sc thats exactly what i was talking about. I test sprayed some plastic stuff i had laying around in the garage with semi-flat krylon not sure what number but ill check later. It came out kinda dry looking. I also bought a black primer to use. Is there a difference in semi-flat and semi-gloss? Thanks for all the replies, i cant wait to tackle this project myself now.

that is just what i got done useing for my taillight treatment... 1613 is by far the nicest in finish and closest to stock thati have found... but i just went and bought it yeasterday and it is no longer semi-flat it is now satin black, took me a while to figure it out after buying Semi-flat for years but the number's matched... USE IT!!!!

wow, i just saw your topic about taillight treatment. Nice job on that, it looks great. I bought semi flat at walmart, i will make sure its 1613 if not ill be buying more.lol. thanks for all the help guys. My car is zinc yellow and has the black vinyl stickers filling in the saleen on the bumper. i hate the way it looks without the bottom painted black.

use 600 grit to rough up the surface then clean it with some laqur thinner and spray it with a air hose if you have one then tape off the area's you dont want paint to get on and cover the car so overspray is not everyware... take a good look at my post i show the prep and the covering i did, you should be able to get a good idea off that.... hope this helps and good luck... btw i want to see PIX of your car.. post em up after you get it painted....
