The other night i was just minding my business when a brand new Lancer EVO rolls up to the light. Me and my friends look over, and it looked pretty tight. I didnt like the fact that it was a 4dr sports car and the altezzas and huge spoiler, but i did like the headlights on it. Anyways this dude didnt seem like he wanted to race, so i did a quick rev at him. He looks over and smiles and shakes his head as saying he didnt want to go. After driving about a mile side by side, he rolls down the windows and asked if i still wanted to go, I said sure. We did a 3 honk race from a 40mph roll. I took him easily by 2 carlengths and it stayed that way till 90mph. We then pulled to a red light and he said he would have a better chance from a stop. So we did the 3 honk thing again, and when he took off, he got at least a 1-1.5 car lead. Damn those things pull like a bat out of hell from a stop. I eventually caught up and was even at 85mph. We shut down then. We then pulled over and talked for a good 15min. He then asked us if we wanted a ride in his EVO. So we got in, we end up driving a mile down the road and hit some curvy streets. This dude hit 100mph going down some curvy road and boy does this car stick on the road like its on rails. Overall the dude was a cool guy. Now that ive been in an EVO, they are a car i can damn well respect now. Ive seen some stock EVO's hit 13.5. Not too shabby.

It's all in the launch. With AWD you can get some serious launching if you're willing to flog the car. Even my 165hp RS will wax most Stangs off the line. But by the time I have to shift to 2nd it's over for me. :)

And yes, they are really good performers.

evos and AWD in general are pretty damn cool.  rally is the future.  plus like horatio says they can get a hell of a launch.

EVO's are phat. I don't care for the wing or altezzas either. Which is why I'd like to get the RS model that Mitsu has coming out, 150 lbs shaved, no wing, (but the altezzas are stayin), and it's a half second quicker than the normal EVO 8...plus it's only about 2k more than the base WRX.

Its true! lol     (edit) I have one of those evo's in my town, but a lady drives it!  I don't know much about them. I would like to give it a run.  It's a very ugly car to me.

I haven't seen very many Evo 8's running around. Most of my experience with the Evos is older ones - mostly 4s and 5s - during rally season.

And the reason I get through the intersection first when racing most people (in my RS) is due to arrogance on the other driver's part. I typically don't race much beyond legal speed limits so it's usually just a first gear through the intersection game, and rarely I get beat. :)

No offense, but this could be a famous quote from an everyday ricer  If I was to pull up beside you at a redlight, when it turned green, I definitely wouldn't give it hell at first because there is no need to.  I will patiently go through first, then into second hard were I can get some traction and easily reel you in.  Plus, do you know how silly I would look stomping it when I am against an RS? Does anyone agree?(and I realize it could be a sleeper, but a very slim chance.)

At low speeds it's quite quick (4.11's). Why do you think I'm selling it? It handles really well, and it's got some grunt (for an econobox), so I just end up getting pissed off when I drive it and I drive too aggressively. My stang has twice the displacement, twice the cylinders, and goes like freaking stink. My only wish was that the stang had the traction that my RS does.
It's funny, driving that car I got used to the traction, and some of the guys were talking about how the track was closed (rained out) and I couldn't comprehend why they'd close it for a little rain. :)

Call me a ricer if you want, but I tend to keep it near legal speeds (usually) in my stang as well. I just don't need the tickets. There were only a few items that made it on my RS that didn't come from Subaru - unorthodox racing pulley, cobb intake, and a set of ~9" Hella rallye 4000 driving lights. For a while I had the rear wing off of a coupe on it, and that's about it for my visual mods. No altezzas, no chrome wheels (stock 16x7 weighed 16 lbs each, why switch?) no huge graphics, no nasty body kit, etc. Most of my money went into the suspension and exhaust. Borla header, high flow cat, cat-back (factory option one, so it wasn't all that loud), previously mentioned pulley and intake, then STi motor mounts, tranny mount, strut top mounts, STi struts, SPT/eibach springs, and a WRX 20mm rear sway bar. It was set up pretty well. I've just lost interest.

The Mustang, on the other hand, has some cheesey fiberglass hood, huge saleen style rear wing, and 17x9 fake cobra R's. The wheels I put on because I couldn't stand the 14" star wheels that were popular back in the 90's, and the rest of it came on the car. I'd say it's more ricey.

Horatio, your RS does sound nice.  I just like talking smack about them due to the ricer name that most deserve.  4.11's??  Bet that does have some pop!

People prefer different things. Some people like Evo's more then Stangs and vice versa. Its like saying you would rather take a Mustang over a WS6. The mustang gt is like 25k while a brand new ws6 is like 35k. I could have easily bought a Stang GT and put a blower on it for the price of my WS6, but at the time, when you have to choose a mustang gt or a trans am ram air ls1, of course i chose the ws6.  Plus there is hardly anyone on this board that has a blower. So again comes the issue of personal preference.

id take an evo over 5k and a stang gt.  just too cool.  recaros, 6 speed, awd, all that.  im sure that stangs can be made better for drag easily, but they cant be made to rally and its always cool to know you can lol

look at it this way...the evo is only 5 grand more then a GT the evo is a 13 second car and only has 270 hp plus awd and those things can take corners like u wouldnt believe it plus the aftermarket for one of those baby's is good they have turbo upgrade kits that get the hp rating 2 350...so if 270hp makes the evo a 13 sec. car think of what 350hp will make it?

Pop in first gear. :) Then its complete lack of torque (compared to a v8) kills it. And I really don't think it's the optimal ratio - I'd rather have 3.90's or 3.73's. First gear winds out a hair too quick and 2nd is too tall (even though it's a close-ratio box). I end up banging off the rev limiter in first going around corners where I'd be lugging in 2nd.

There are quite a few RS's running around that'll surprise you though. A friend of mine in Seattle has one that runs 13's. Another friend has one that'd be just as quick if he ever drove it (show car, it's a 00 with like 7k miles I think).

so this isn't Erin...its her boyfriend...Stock Evos have ran 11.2 in the 1/4

with $2k in mods they hit low 12's.

but they arent' Drag Cars...and Mitsu knew that and put a weak clutch in them...u do a few 6k drops and u wear out the clutch and it goes out..instead of the driveshafts breaking etc.

they are rally/road race cars, ask any of them that lol...hence the 100+mph down a twisty back road and it stickin like glue :)  www.evolutionm.net --learn all about the Evo/Lancer :)  i drive an 02 Lancer  girlfriend says its ugly...but im not really a mustang person, yes i know the 03 Cobras can be fast and i respect that.

Its stock and runs 11.2? Then you put 2K into it and it runs 12? Why did it slow down so much?

On a personal note. I havent lost to one yet, or a WRX either. They dont have a chance, not around here anyway. Nobody makes $150k a year to afford to build one.
