Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue?

S07_339 -> Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/6/2008 2:23:03 PM)

I have read a lot of back post regarding the Saleen brake squeal issue.  It seems that this issue was resolved with a rotor switch prior to 2007.  This would lead one to believe that the '07 cars should not have this issue.  The Squeal on my '07 however is rather apparent and seems to be getting worse and worse.  It is similar to squeal experienced by others where it is under light breaking only (typically in stop and go traffic).  I there anyone reading that was one of the originals with this issue that has successfully had it resolved?

Any input would be appreciated.

I've heard that if you have the rotors with a black hat in the center you shouldn't have the squealing.  I took my 06 in 10 days ago for brake squeal and a check engine light and they are still waiting on parts.  My rotors have a silver hat in the center and they squeal horribly.

I had my '06 done about a month ago. Its just like how Screamin described it. Silver center rotors =squeal, Black center rotors=no squeal. I havent had a problem since they were replaced.

I had it real bad. The day I decided to take it to the dealer is the day it stopped.
It just went away on its own. Makes no sense.

call Saleen warranty dept., they have an updated pad and shim kit now that will take care of your squeeling.

Hey Jorge is this what they sent me to fix mine?

I had this same problem a while back but Saleen hooked me up and took care of the problem. Yet the past two weeks there has been a really light squeek coming from the front again...and I even have the black hats...hmmmmm

Just buy some Axxis Deluxe Advanced street pads (formerly called Deluxe Plus) are ideal if you are looking for a low dust pad that is quiet and rotor friendly, yet has enough fade resistance for performance cars. Friend of mine just went thru this with his '06 Saleen, did the upgraded rotors and new pad but still had the problem. He talked directly to Stop Tec and the recommended this pad. He's been very happy with them. Lower dusting, no squeek, initial bite isn't as good but still a lot better than stock!

Cody, you got new rotors. But from my understanding, they are no longer changing rotors. They are just changing pads with shims. If your brakes are starting to squeel again, wash off the brake dust on your rotor and calipers and go do a couple of hard braking sessions without coming to a complete stop to rebed your brakes and you should be fine.
I hope your car is running well Cody, enjoy it.

Hahahaha....I asked a really stupid question...What I meant to ask was if they were doing anything different with the brakes...But I will do what you suggested. Extremely knowledgable as always man. Thanks! [:D]

That is probably what I need. My brakes squeal like crazy, they have since the car was new.

Abbas, call Saleen warranty dept. and ask them about the new pads and shim kit for the squeeling concern.

teamgsxr -> RE: Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/10/2008 1:47:27 PM)

No, they should send out a pair of pads and shims.

Is that free? And can this only be sent to a dealership?

abbas -> RE: Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/12/2008 9:54:14 PM)

I called the Saleen Warranty dept and talked to Dave. He said the pads and shims are NOT available for the 15" brakes that the Extreme comes with. More or less he said that I was out of luck.

teamgsxr -> RE: Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/13/2008 7:57:20 AM)

I'm sorry to hear that. Dave is the new guy in charge of warranty. (I guess)

ScreaminS281 -> RE: Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/16/2008 5:06:39 AM)

Its been three weeks since I took my car in for the brake squeal and the dealer said they are having a hard time getting parts from Saleen.  I find that hard to believe as I emailed Saleen yesterday and within an hour got two replys on what to do.  Saleen emailed me the TSB on this, I can forward it to anyone that needs it.

usmc18227 -> RE: Saleen Brake Squeel - Can we re-surface this issue? (5/16/2008 5:10:17 AM)

ScreaminS281  can u please email what they told you, Thanks Eric M.

Send me your email address, I couldn't post an attachment through the forum email.  charrisonjr@columbus.rr.com

TSB sent, if you can figure out how to post it on here, feel free to do so.  I'm sure there are alot of people that could benenfit from having that.  These dealerships seem to be clueless.
