Nothing is wrong with the V6...
Is it plenty fast (stock), sure... but I think the point to a Musle car is making it faster... Most people want to start with something that already has a good amount of power and then add more too it... I would view it as the easy way out...
anyone can take a pre-fab super/turbo setup and install it on a V8 that it was made for... now how many people do you know that would or could take a super/turbo and install it on an engine that it's not made for? how many people want to take the time to mill out their own parts (or would even know how)?
then again, maybe I just like rooting for the underdog? Maybe I just like making thing difficult on myself? Maybe I just like whining? Who knows...
When I first got my stang, my plan was to pay it off ASAP, and swap the engine out for the Super Cobra Jet...
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=267428&prmenbr=361
However, the longer I own my lil 6 banger, the more and more I wanna make it eat GT's for lunch (mostly cuz of the GT owners saying the nasty about the V6)... which I'm not too far off from matching the stock 05 (and I've done relatively little thus far, compared to my plans)
I got up to 105 in an aproximated quarter mile last night from a dead stop. There's an old road in the middle of nowhere that we used to run when we were kids, and I happened to be around the area... I know aprox what the quarter was by how we used to mark it... I'm sure I'm being a little too nice to myself in my numbers, but either way what a ride (it was the first time I used the nitrous other than testing the system)
I've got gears on order, and am planning a few other mods before I get a custom dyno tune (the tune I have now is the standard one from Steeda), and I will post actual results... after the tune, I'm planning on heading over to the track and getting a real number for my 1/4 time... will post that too when I have more specific results...
after that I'm going with new heads/forged internals and a bigger shot of nitrous... will probably look at fabricating my own twin turbo setup as well... but I have to wait until I can get another car for daily driving... (not sure I can rebuild an engine in a weekend, and I gotta work to pay for my car)

There's nothing at all wrong with the sixxer. It sounds great and performs excellent, and the MPG is pretty good too. Fact is 99% of the people out there don't know the difference between the sixxer and GT, they just see a cool Mustang. I could have bought a GT vert easily enough (there were several here in town), but in the end I liked the look of the six better (I don't like the "ground effects" type lips on the GT, I like the stripes and wheels on the six better than the GT). I was not interested in getting a Mustang for hot rodding around, I've got motorcycles for that. Even a heavily-modded GT will not give the same rush as a high-10's 1/4 motorcycle. Hurtling down the road with nothing around you at those speeds is an interesting sensation :D Anyway, despite those short country backroad jaunts on the bikes, my street-racing days are behind me, it's not worth the risk of a ticket (and increased insurance premiums) to show your taillights to some goofball in a rice-burner.
Not that there's anything wrong with a GT! I readily acknowledge the preferences I mentioned above are my own, there are no doubt many people that love what I hate and hate what I love ;)

Nothing wrong with the sixes, I just want the GT cause I've always wanted a V8, that sound is hard to beat. I give the v6s props, they are certainly faster than my cougar and are almost as fast as the old 5.0s, so whats wrong with them?

I feel your pain, since I bought my car I have noticed the first question I am asked is always...what size engine does it have? When I reply with a V6, I get that little "oh, well, it's still a sweet ride".....My responce is, "well, it still has 210 horsepower and thats nothing to scoff at" followed by their responce of " (pause) that's true ", I get annoyed with the fact that having a smaller engine makes my car less than to some people (esp. when those people drive unmodded fours). I don't need a V8, I'm not a racecar driver, I bought the car because its sexy as hell, and it pays homage to all mustangs before it. This car is double the power of my old car and that's enough for me.
I just want to say thank you to all my fellow V6ers out there, it's good to know that I'm not alone in my love for the 'ol six banger and thanks to you guys, I don't feel like such a freak.

V6 is fine..there are a couple of 'beef-cakes' (see definition below) that holler otherwise. IMO a v6 is the best compromise in terms of performance and efficiency. Sure the v8 is 300 horse but gas mileage is horrible. Hell if I wanted the best performance, perhaps I wouldn't car about gas mileage (I don't really but just playing devils advocate here;)) Not to mention insurance and liability on those. Some beef-cakes will say you're being a poser by getting a wannabe muscle car. Uh, it's still rear wheel drive, it's still detroit, and it's still got plenty of power. The original Mustangs from 64 1/2 and 65 barely made 200-225 hp and the GT made a whole 271. Yes there are a couple of other limited editions ones as well that output higher numbers.
Eitherway....[sm=chairshot.gif] to those that scoff and [sm=chairshot.gif] to the beef-cakes that have other things they are trying to make up for and put the six down.
Beef-cake: the term used for muscle bound (in this case muscle head) guy that think they're the sh33t because they have a V8 and act all invincible and narcissistic when in actuality they are making up for other Short comings of their person.
This of course does not apply to all V8 owners, just the ones that spouted off in a recent thread that asked the question 'why are all GT owners such scum bags?'
Nothing at all wrong with the V6, Camel. I ordered a GT coupe in February and found out in April that I wasn't going to get my car this year. I had seen a V6 vert in the showroom of a different dealer. Gave them a call and they still had it, so I bought it. My wife loves to cruise around with me. She says the car has a nice sound. I agree with her. I've had the car less than a month and have had no less than ten people tell me I've got an awesome car. I'm getting good gas mileage and the six banger definitely is quicker off the line than my '98 F-150 with a 4.2 V6. What else does a guy really need?
goxley i like your car..its looks exactly like mine..cept it is a convert..is your stick or auto..i got a 5 speed....i think my v6 is fine and if people dont like it cause it isnt a 8cyl then oh well

It does not matter if you got a V6, or a GT. The chicks could give a %$#. All they know is its a hot car, and believe me you will still get laid;)

It's an automatic, but I'll run through the gears manually when I want to get on it. My cousin had a '78 King Cobra Mustang II w/ a 302, he also had an '82 GT; my brother had an '84 GT and my V6 is quicker off the line than all 3 of them. Plenty of car for me.

I have had quite a few people ask about mine and interestingly enough, not one person has asked what motor it's running. You know, you don't even have to say it's a V6 if that bothers you, just tell people it's a 210 hp 4.0 liter. If they ask if it's a 6 or 8, tell them it's a 6 that runs like an 8 :D
Goxley, that's a great color combo. Love the light graphite interior with the blue.
I just HAD to have the red interior and felt the red looked most dramatic with the black exterior, so that's what I went with on mine. I love it!
There isn't anything wrong with the V6. I have a GT but there are so few on the road. I only see 05 V6s in my area, but we are all Mustang owners and everyone waves. Both are great cars.

The red interior with the black must be awesome--nice subtle contrast. What color are the stripes? Here's a couple mors shots of mine showing the top stripes. Mine are silver.

There is absolutley nothing wrong with the v6...i mean traditionaly when you think mustang you think of a high horse power v-8 muscle car...but nowadays you have to think of what you want inyour car...if you want a good looking car to show off and cruise in then you dont need the v-8, get the v-6 and use the insurance money to trick it out. People have diffrent taste and if other v-6 owners are like me they chose to buy the v-6 for the economy of it and the looks, not for power.

Thanks! The stripes are white. If I ever do hood/ deck stripes, the side stripes will come off and the new stripes will be dark red to match the interior. I would probably have side stripes done to match as well. I doubt I'll ever do that unless the car gets smashed (NOOOOO!!!!!) ;) Nice top stripes on yours, looks like a pretty close match to the side stripes.

Another comment about buying the V6 instead of the GT, that leaves you that much more money to set aside each month so you can buy a Shelby when it comes out :D You'll want to keep the 6 of course, you'll need a daily driver :)

That's pretty sad! You need a hot car in order to get laid??? In other words you may as well put a bag over your head because the "chicks" are having a fantasy about the car, not you! Sad world!

Nothing wrong with a 6. Get what you want, and don't worry about what other people think about it.
Just out of curiosity, I was told that the S197 V6 only gets one more MPG than the GT on the highway and gets the same city MPG. Does anyone still have their window sticker to confirm? I have a hard time believing that the V6 and GT get almost identical gas mileage.

If you do some reseach around these forums, you'll find out that, in the real world, the V6s aren't a whole lot better than the V8s when it comes to gas mileage. Sure, it's better, and if you drive like a grandmother, it will be even a greater difference. But, in my opinion, it'snot enough of a difference that it should sway someone towards a 6 instead of an 8.
A previous poster said the V8s get "horrible" gas mileage. That's just ridiculous, and uninformed.

Looking at my window sticker right now.....19 city mpg/28 Highway mpg.
Last time I filled up I got 24 with mostly city driving. Yes, I was easy to the take off at the stop lights and I shifted sooner and used 5th gear more.

Hey a stang is a stang. No matter if you have a classic , mustang ii or new one. I got the 6 because it is what I wanted. I could not get a 8 with all the features for the price that I payed for mine. Also getting every bit of juice out of a 6 is a bit more tricky then a 8. more of a challenge.

absolutely nothing is wrong with the mustang having a V6. the V6 is there for those of us who can't afford the 30k pricetag of a new GT or someone who doesn't need the power or wants to save some cash on gas or insurance but still want a mustang. especially for younger people. no one should have a V8 mustang for their first car. they need to respect the power of a V6 first before moving on up in the world to a V8.

I would have to say the 4.0 V6 is one of the best sounding stock 6 out there. It also can be one of the fastest with the right mods that for sure!
