if you order the tuner through C&L, it should already be preloaded with a tune that is specific for the C&L CAI. i beleive its a tune that doug@bamachips created. call C&L to make sure though. another option would have been to buy everything together from bama directly but either way you should be pleased with the results.

you'll need to order some custom tunes from a tuner shop of your choice. you'll have to let them know the CAI you have and whatever other mods. try going to the SCT site and see if they have a generic C&L tune for free download. it would probably be part of the firmware similar to the diablo.

i dont have any engine mods all i dont its dual echaust my car is automatic so how do you like c&l intake do you feel the difference

compared to stock, awesome difference (with a good custom tune). the quick throttle response and stronger pull in the power band is the best. of course its all in the tune but a good cai will provide hi flow/minimal restriction which only compliments the tune.

so what tune do you recomended me to get and where to get it from and do you know how much it would cost to get

Sancho805

vmp tunes are $50 each. bamachips also dropped their single tune price to $50 as well. check out their sites and decide from there. i read good things on brenspeed also. can't lose with any of them.

higher octanes have more power potential. depending what is available in your area, (91 is the highest for me here in socal), get the perf tune that matches the highest at your local pumps. dont expect noticeable differences between 87 vs 89 and 91 vs 93 even if there is a diff. 87 vs 91/93 is where you'll feel the diff. if it were me, i would purchase either the 91/93 perf tune from VMP or the 91/93 race tune from bama. nothing against other tuners, its just that i have experience with bama, which i'm VERY happy with and i've READ LOTS of compliments on VMP tunes.

so it would be good to get it for my xcal 2 and get the race tune 91/93 from bama so does that mean i only use 91 on my car and not 87 cause the highest here is also 91 im in the so cal area also

landon.moss
05-07-2008, 07:29 PM
yup...only use the octane your tune is set for...on hi-po motors it will cause pinging, and supposedly doing a 91 tune and running lower octane will cause pinging as well (not good)

05-07-2008, 07:43 PM
so if i go with 91 i have to use 91 all the time so whats the best tune out there for me

landon.moss
05-07-2008, 07:49 PM
that is correct....guess it depends what kind of/how much driving you do/how much you wanna spend on gas - i thought i read that some peeps with the economy tune didn't notice a huge difference from the race tune...i'm pry wrong on that one:) t's pry the torque tune compared to race tune is minimal dif

kaponelb
05-07-2008, 09:09 PM
i dont drive my car much so i dont think the 91 would be a big problem so what would be the best tune for me

The difference in all of these tunes is pretty much timing, fuel, transmission, and throttle settings.

Each tune (or tuner) designs tunes to perform specific tasks. A torque tune provides more low down torque, but probably less HP up top. A race tune is meant for the track, not daily driving. A performance tune is a good all around tune for daily driving.

The best answer for you, is to decide what you want out of your car, pick the tuner you want, call them, tell them what you're looking for, and have them suggest the best tune(s) to suit your needs.

Actually, the best answer (if you can afford it), is to find a good tuner and have your car custom dyno tuned for your specific needs.

i have a scal2 i tihink ima go with the 91 performance just need that extra power on the streets not track stuff for me and i dont need torque

kaponelb
05-08-2008, 12:38 AM
so i would get better performance if i went with the 91 performance than the 87 performance

so i order my custom tune here http://www.bamachips.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=35&ze nid=4aff1f86463f5ecd310744414f4ec14ecause this is for the v6 what is the calibration code or strategy and axle code or gear ratio

Seriously? Like right on the page that link points to in BIG BLUE LETTERS it says "CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW TO FIND YOUR CALIBRATION CODE"

Sorry, I clicked the link and realized it no longer worked....

It's on the side of your ECU... near the fuse box in your car... if an auto it's DUR3 I think

i purchased the bama 3-tune pack. i chose 87 perf, 91 torq & 91 race. before my gear upgrade, i was using the torq more often (mostly city driving). after the gear upgrade, i've stuck to the race tune since my car hits the power band much quicker now and i feel like it takes better advantage of the race tune. can't lose with any of them really.

what do you use 87 performance for so you think 91 perfomance would be good for me i just have dual exhause and the c&l intake

i originally only wanted both the 91 torq and 91 race tunes and figured i might as well pay a little extra and get the 3-pack. personally, i like having a selection of tunes to choose from. i've only used the 87 perf for road trips. if you're going to go with bama and only one tune at this time, i would recommend the 91 race. it gives plenty kick in the low end and strong pull in the high end. well balanced tune.

05-08-2008, 03:34 PM
how much did the 3 cost you so the 91 race its better than the 91 performance i heard that the 91 race its for like tracks and stuff like so you think it would be good for me a good tune to start with what do you do with you 91 torq i think i wanna get the 87 performance for the trips like u said and the 91 race for like weekend driving whats the difference from the 91 race to the 91 performance

Sancho805
05-08-2008, 04:06 PM
go to bama site for prices. its all there for you. as for the differences.... from what i understand and from what i can feel, torq is concentrated on the low rpm band. perf is concentrated on the high rpm's. race seems to be the balls-out all-ecompassing tune fusing both together...lol, [8D]. don't worry about driveability. although there are differences that can be noticed between them, they are not dramatic. they are all equally fun in there own way ;).

kaponelb
05-08-2008, 04:16 PM
so i should start off with the 91 race

Sancho805
05-08-2008, 04:23 PM
thats just what i would recommend. figure out your driving style then pick a tune that seems to fit better. they are all good dude so dont worry.

yup, just list all the mods you have in the online form. the listing of your C&L is VERY important since adjustments need to be made for the oversized MAF housing on this particular CAI.

i heard the 91 race might not be good for like street use because it can make ur tires peel out and that wont be good if your next to a police stuff like that i contacted bamachips and he recomended the 91 torq

Sancho805
05-09-2008, 04:41 PM
i use the 91 race around town. plus i have 3.73 gears which only multiplies the effect. i'm fine driving it and you'll be also. i can easily screech my tires with the torq tune also so there's no real drop off using that one. just feels like there's more concentration on the low end instead of the entire range.

P.S...... you're foot will get you into trouble with police, not the tune. ;)

kaponelb
05-09-2008, 09:29 PM
so you dont feel it peel out so the 91 race tune is good at all speeds what does it mean by bamachips wrote it might try to jump out with that tune what tune do you use the most in the streets

Sancho805
05-11-2008, 01:53 PM
before gears, torq tune. i'm not hauling ass around town so the torq was perfect for city driving. after gears, race tune is my DD since i get to the powerband much quicker which the race tune does very well in. ;)

how about a night on the town when you want that little extra power im thinking about ordering the 3 tune the 87 performance 91 torque and the 91 race from bama how long did it take you to get your tunes from bama

hey sancho805 did you use the heat shield that came with the c&l intake im installing it and cant figure out how does the thing fit mine didnt come with instructions did you use the the zip ties if so were did you use them can you post a pictures of your engine i wanna see how it looks

Sancho805
05-16-2008, 05:11 PM
i'm at work and dont have pics but it only screws into one location; the wheel well. the zip ties go to the nearest secure thing you can tie onto. i bought mine used and didnt have instructions either but it was pretty straight foward so they weren't needed. the shield is light weight plastic material with flex so you shouldnt be overly concerned with how secure the shield is mounted.

one more thing you use the 91 torq does the needleof the rpms always jump to 1 when you start it and it stays there and do you feel the car gets hotter like the engine because i took it for a spin when i got back home the engine was hotter than normal
