my 5.0 has 145xxx on it and i was going to start off by rebuilding the bottom end of the block. my question is if anyone has ever herd of Probe industries stroker kits and if they are good.

Probe is descent i guess. Are you saying you already have a 306 because a 306 is not a stroker. It's just a 302 bored .030

You should do what joel suggested. A stroker kit can be had for about the same money, just a little more. Go with a 347 stroker.

There are a couple different things you need to consider with a stroker over a bored engine (306).

You will need a new flywheel and balancer, with some clearancing for the rods.

If you are going to freshen up the engine, reuse your crankshaft and rods, and buy new pistons.

It is cheaper than all, but does not include the power.

It is a give or take situation.

A lot may depend on his current setup. If my 302 blows, I'll probably go 306, or possibly 331, just because I already have a $500 custom CI cam designed for my 302 (which would suck in a 347), twisted wedge heads with the correct springs for the cam, and custom stalled converter designed specifically for my application (stall would actually be higher with a 347). All of these would need to be changed along with the induction system, $$$$$ (although the heads could be ported to take advantage of the bigger cubes).

Isn't a long rod 306 a stroker? I know that's not what he's talking about here, but others read and should know there is a 306 that is not just a 4.030 bore.

It is not considered a stroker, unless the stroke is changed. :)

A long rod 306 typically has a 5.40" rod and a shorter compression height piston.

True David as a whole, but the piston stroke has increased. And there is a difference between a 5.09" rod and the 5.4" (increased piston speed caused by a longer rod). I just think everyone should know that not all 306's are bored 302's.

What you need is a high compression(10.1) setup as far as cost .Cheaper.

Probe .040 pistons, block bored and honed .040, pistons balanced and pressed like the old ones.

Trickflow or Eldelbrock Intake.

You should make at least 300rwhp with some decent heads, thats alot of power in a fox with massive torque and your ET will greatly reduce.
