View Full Version : rest in peace
brian1570 05-06-2008, 12:53 PM my mustang died today.
im still not sure what killed it. but its dead none the less. every mechanic ive taken it to has been baffled by it, all they could tell me was that its "something in the valvetrain" more specificaly the valvetrain on the #1 cylinder. and as i was driving it today it decidedto give up the ghost, i managed to limp it home where it died. :(it will remain where it sits as a lifeless corpse untill maybe one day i can find the magic to make a resurrection. but untill then the ranks for the fight against ricers will remain a man short.
would anybody like to say a few final words?
boostin95cobra 05-06-2008, 12:54 PM Yeah...
HAHA!
brian1570 05-06-2008, 12:55 PM

fastbackford351 05-06-2008, 01:07 PM How well would a 5.4 fit?
35thAnni99GT 05-06-2008, 01:09 PM In his budget or the car?:D
RyansQuick6 05-06-2008, 01:10 PM $50, I'll pick it up later this week.
brian1570 05-06-2008, 01:10 PM hahaha u guys forget im a college student...im broke, which means no termie motor, no new car, no nothing. i will be driving my 96 tbird untill i can afford to rebuild the motor. which the tbird isnt too much longer for the world ether. im considering moving up my ship out date to june and using the money from training to put a decent crate motor in it. so far thats my only option. i cant even sell it im still 3800 in the hole and couldnt sell if for that much anyway. the only problem with leaving sooner is that ide go to afghanistan in january. so it'd sit in my drive way for over a year until i could come home and "resurrect" it.
NYstang 05-06-2008, 01:32 PM Ill give you 500 bucks for the carcass
GStam66 05-06-2008, 02:02 PM so you dont even know wtf happend to it?

Just kidding. Good lord that sucks a lot of ass.
how are mechanics baffled by a problem "in the valvetrain"
is it as mod motor?
pull the valve covers
"OOOOO problem discovered....."
Visage 05-06-2008, 03:46 PM How's this for last words, "Shoulda got a V6."

Sorry to hear that though. I say you get to training/deployed as soon as possible to get funds up, that is if you finish school first.

hope that ends the confusion;)
SVTBill 05-06-2008, 07:03 PM dude, that sucks - sorry to hear about your loss
buy a junkyard motor from megual's used auto parts off the beltway, and we can fix that up. if not then sell me some of your mods. you did say it's an autotragic right?
Zanador 05-06-2008, 07:04 PM A PI Engine with mid miles (50-70k) can be had for cheap... in the 700-1000 area.
You can get it running again, and with more power than before.
it could be collapsed lifters or something gay, if its only on 1 cylinder
id look into it before ditching the engine
can you not diagnose it yourself?
35thann.mustang 05-06-2008, 09:32 PM Try to find a cheap 5.4
Explosive 05-06-2008, 09:37 PM I'd look into it. OHC FTL.
302army187 05-06-2008, 09:39 PM id say fast track your deployment, and get someone back home to buy parts for you, that way when you get back, everythings ready to go, no waiting for parts, engine work/ etc.
call a popular engine builder, spill the beans about your deployment, and your engine dieing, set something up with him to build you a bad ass engine, spend the money and do it right so it will last, and have a complete engine ready to go when you get back!
brian1570 05-07-2008, 12:20 AM ok lets get something straight...i took it to USA racing engines, strictly performance, and M&J auto....ive had compression checks done more than once. ive had the valve covers off more than once. ive had a full electronic engine diagnostic done on it. AND NOBODY CAN GIVE ME A DEFFINATE ANSWER. in fact every1 tells me something different.
but anyways, my idea is ether go find a donor car w/ a pi motor, OR wait till after my training and buy a dss long block. anyway i slice it tho its gonna have more power after im done rebuilding it tho.
edit: but thanx for the support to those of u who gave it.
SVTBill 05-07-2008, 12:27 AM your first problem was taking it to strictly, they suck ass. take it to psi, patrick actually knows wtf he's doing
also, do you want to sell me any mods? i need a sct2
brian1570 05-07-2008, 12:30 AM i have a diablo sport, and actually richard owes me a ****ing diablo revo [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]
well it isnt going any where right now. but if i take it any where(which will be on a flatbed)it will be USA racing engines. they have been building engines for my dad since the 70's. and as far as sellin mods to u i dont have anything u could use, wait i have some old flow 40's...
rmodel65 05-07-2008, 12:32 AM if you were in ga i could help you out, i know where a complete 96-98 gt auto car is for 400$
brian1570 05-07-2008, 12:41 AM mmm no i need a 2001+ gt...i dont wantnon pi unless i absolutely have to settle for keeping non pi.
99BlackPonyGT 05-07-2008, 09:40 AM 01 plus? 99 and 00 are pi too [>:]
sultan68 05-07-2008, 11:38 AM i feel like a tard but what is pi
brian1570 05-07-2008, 12:22 PM 99 and 01 r windsor tho right? different timing chain cover and valve covers right? or am i just retarded?
oh and pi stands for performance improved. its basicaly just a better h/c/i design from ford that they put on the new edge gt's and a few other things. my car is a non pi. its the orginal 4.6 design and it SUCKS.
edit: i have done some research and made some phone calls, a new set of npi heads from ford is 2800 after the core charge is refunded. a new pi motor from ford is 3000 or so after the core charge. o'rielly's wants 2900 for a pi crate motor. i can buy a set of performance npi heads from ford racing for 1600. i think a new set of pi heads from ford racing is like 1800. havnt looked for used heads/motor yet but the last time i did i found a set of heads for 700. but i really dont wanna buy used parts cuz i really dont want something like this happening again.
flash20 05-07-2008, 12:37 PM i have to agree with bill. strictly does suck.
psi is a good shop. also fastlane and triangle speed shop in orange is also a good shop
good luck on ur build. id get rid of it and get something else
brian1570 05-07-2008, 12:55 PM welllll its too late now to take it to a shop, but when i do im taking it to our personal mechanic, his name is reno. hes gonna charge me 700 to pull the heads off and put whatever heads i want back on.
SVTBill 05-07-2008, 02:08 PM i can hook you up with a set of npi heads for super cheap. theres this place over my 610 thats called "the head shop", you can take them there to get them worked. you can port npi heads more than you can pi heads
brian1570 05-07-2008, 02:12 PM hmmmmmmmmmmm how cheap?
nseoi 05-07-2008, 02:44 PM ripp off the damn heads and fix it yourself! what i would GIVE to have a home where i could do my own work
brian1570 05-07-2008, 02:58 PM yeah my dads house haseverything i need to do it, just no space in the driveway or the garage. or time to do it. but its still 200 something for the headchanging kit, 100 something for new gaskets, plus the cost of what ever i decide to do i.e. pi head swap, fix the heads, new npi heads etc etc. so its still gonna be pretty expensive...and to me its just money but i gotta make more of it first so it just equals time.
302army187 05-07-2008, 06:15 PM holy cow! STOCK heads cost $1800!?!!?!
thats nuts
i love my 5.0 even more now!
brian1570 05-07-2008, 06:22 PM depends on which heads and who u get them from...brand new pi heads yes can be that much. 900 per head. if u get them from a dealership(which is totally retarded but i asked a dealership) they r 1500 per head. and a motor is 3400. those r both b4 the core charge deduction.
brian1570 05-07-2008, 06:34 PM http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=6124
ford racing stock pi heads. 450 per head. so thats 900 total. thats really not too bad.
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=2239
ford racing npi high performance heads. 949 per head. 1900 total.
http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/view.phtml?f_cat=Performance+Packages%3A+Ford%3A+2-Valve%3A+Cylinder+Heads
stg1,2,3 livernois pi heads. starting at 1500 and going to 1900
Zanador 05-07-2008, 06:40 PM ...
Or, you can buy a pair of used heads from someone for 200, and have a machine shop check them over for what, 100?
brian1570 05-07-2008, 06:50 PM good point...but if they ARENT good heads im out 200-300 bux. ide rather spend the money for brand new ones. i dont want the chance of ANY kind of head/valvetrain failure. im lookin at 900 for new heads 100 or less for a used pi intake(that i will buy used) 200 for head changing kit, 100 for new gaskets(if that) and 700 for labor. so hopefully i can do the whole shabang for less than 2000.
brian1570 05-08-2008, 05:21 PM BUMP, anybody know where to get timing chain tensioners and timing chainsonline?
brian1570 05-19-2008, 02:48 PM ok so heres an update. ive ditched the idea of buying new heads. its too $$$ and im getting sick of looking at my car sitting in the driveway. i just made a bid on a set of pi heads on ebay, and a bid on a pi intake w/ all the little goodies that go w/ it. timeformiller might sell me his old heads, minus the lifters(thanx miller for the help) ive also repriced some things. head chaning kit: 105. chain tensioners: 40(pair). full set of gaskets: 110-ish. used pi heads:350-500. used pi intake:50-100. add the price for new oil, and anything i might not have factored and im lookin at anywhere from 800-1000. and btw ive decided to tackle this myself. i cant see almost doubling my expenses just to have som1 else do what i can do myself for free.
boostin95cobra 05-19-2008, 05:57 PM Get a real motor...PI heads...pshhh HA![8D]
brian1570 05-19-2008, 11:01 PM wanna give me a real donation? ide love to have a 4v :)
mustangcat 05-19-2008, 11:03 PM Well crap...looks like you'll have to sell it for parts. Damn.[8D]
I'll buy your rims.;)

boostin95cobra 05-19-2008, 11:25 PM He'd need the USS Lincoln to help install it.
SWATSCHOOL 05-19-2008, 11:55 PM To op, fix your car it looks sweet as hell.
Projectquick 05-20-2008, 12:19 AM From summit you can get the ford racing PI heads for like 350 a piece. Whats so expensive about that?
timeformiller44 05-20-2008, 12:22 AM ^ maybe didnt know about them..
but bri i still have them ... no one else needs them..so if it comes down to it ill still sell them...

350 a head is too much, but yeah miller u r at the top of my list, if i cant grab these ebay heads for cheap, then im gonna hit u up. i just wanna thro a couple bids at these on ebay and see what happens. but if they go too high then u can bet ill buy yours.

thanx :). and yes i am going to fix it. ill be updating this thread when ever i make any headway.
99GTvert 05-20-2008, 01:47 AM hey cock
are you going to get the heads ported?
brian1570 05-20-2008, 01:56 AM the pi heads? no, wasnt planning on it. why?
99GTvert 05-20-2008, 01:59 AM well because dude anything you can do for more horsepowe YOU SHOULD DAMN ****ING DO IT!
besides, its not a bad idea while they are already out of the car. may cost a few hundred bucks, but it will free up some horsepower. while you are at it, get some cams, a new tranny, an IRS suspension setup, and some neon underglow lights.
brian1570 05-20-2008, 02:04 AM yeah and a kb blower, and full tubular suspension, and a roll cage, and a cowl hood, and a big brake kit...i mean why not since im doing the heads...
99GTvert 05-20-2008, 02:05 AM while you're at it, buy a new house and a huge garage, and ****.
brian1570 05-20-2008, 02:08 AM yeah and while im doin that ill just go ahead and kill u...
i mean...
pi heads and intake ftw?
brian1570 05-21-2008, 01:02 AM bump, whats a good set of cheap shorty headers?
boostin95cobra 05-21-2008, 01:02 AM MAC

brian1570 05-21-2008, 01:27 AM dont have the $$$ for lt's right now, ide need a new midpipe to boot.
brian1570 05-21-2008, 01:28 AM bbk's r 300 bux btw...
lookin for something more like 200
brian1570 05-21-2008, 09:48 AM just bought the heads, just need the intake now.
get long tubes
and make your own intake:eek:
actually make your own headers
brian1570 05-21-2008, 10:05 AM YEAH ill let u know how that goes...
Acer2428 05-21-2008, 11:48 AM God damnit, you OT retards. Shoo! GET!
Anyways, you could have bought a valvetrain set and just rebuilt the head. Just have it tanked and fluxed to make sure it's not cracked (do that to the new one too) any machine shop can do it. Also have them check to make sure it's not warped. If so, it can be milled unless it's too severe (have yet to see that).
Anyways, it's not worth porting the heads on a basically stock motor. This WOULD however be an excellent time to do a cam swap. For headers, FRPP makes some cheap ones that work just fine. I bought mine for ease of install (just pull the old heads out with manifolds and all) and put the new ones in with shiny new hardware, new gaskets, etc. You won't get any real performance gain out of them.
brian1570 05-21-2008, 03:14 PM but u know what...i just came across some money :)
;)
so i might just go ahead and buy LT's
i heard flowtech's are horrible, should i stay away from them? they are pretty cheap tho, and so are hedman. if i have it in my buget i will buy mac's but idk yet where all of my budget is going.
1990NOS! 05-21-2008, 03:35 PM BBK's are your best shot for LT's and Hooker/ and Hooker Super Comp (pretty much just for racing)-- BBK's are on the cheaper side....
Flowtech- doesn't flow, they suck
Pacesetter's suck as well
GL
(Sorry bout the car, maybe it'll be faster, and more enjoyable this time around).....
brian1570 05-21-2008, 05:05 PM yeah im thinking about goin w/ MAC LT's. ive bought MAC products b4 and they were really good quality. plus they are a little less expensive. 359 for the headers and 169 for the h-pipe. might go w/ the pypes LT's also they are the same price from am.muscle but w/ free shipping. only thing is i havent heard any feedback about pypes headers.and i have no idea if they r 2.5" or 3" collectors.
302army187 05-21-2008, 06:41 PM lt's are only going to net you about 5-10hp at best.
idk, im waiting to do somethings to the car to do headers, i dont think the gain is really worth the work/money right now for me.
gl with everything though and be sure to update us, im interested to see where this go's
brian1570 05-21-2008, 06:51 PM yeah headers r on the fence right now. but i can tell u if i can afford it then lt's are going onif not then they wont. i think thats what its going to come down to. because 5-10hp here and there equals lower times and what not.
and yes i will deffinately keep updating. pics will come soon...
