Warning: Look at the gas pump handle BEFORE you
pump your gas. Please
read and forward to anyone you know who drives a car.
My name is Captain Abraham Sands of the Jacksonville , Florida , Police
Department. I have been asked by state and local authorities to write
this email in order to get the word out to car drivers of a very
dangerous prank that is occurring in numerous states. Some person or
persons have been affixing hypodermic needles to the underside of gas
pump handles! These needles appear to be infected with HIV positive
blood. In the Jacksonville area alone , there have been 17 cases of
people being stuck by these needles over the past five (5) months. We
have verified reports of at least 12 others in various states around the
country. It is believed that these may be copycat incidents due to
someone reading about the crimes or seeing them reported on television.
At this point no one has been arrested and catching the perpetrators has
become our top priority. Shockingly, of the 17 people who where stuck, 8
have tested HIV positive and because of the nature of the disease, the
others could test posi tive in a couple years. Evidently the consumers go
to fill their car with gas, and when picking up the pump handle get
stuck with the infected needle. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO CAREFULLY CHECK THE
HANDLE of the gas pump each time you use one. LOOK AT EVERY SURFACE YOUR
HAND MAY TOUCH, INCLUDING UNDER THE HANDLE! If you do find a needle
affixed to one, immediately contact your local police department so they
can collect the evidence. PLEASE HELP US BY MAINTAINING A VIGILANCE, AND
BY FORWARDING THIS EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO DRIVES. THE MORE PEOPLE
WHO KNOW OF THIS, THE BETTER PROTECTED WE CAN ALL BE.

everyone saying it's false... it might actually happen... sheesh... either way I wouldn't be surprised if it happened here in norfolk... ****ing city I can't wait to graduate and get the hell out.

The problem with the possibility of it happening is that hypodermic needles are 1. pretty big, and 2. pretty thick, I believe they are .22 gauge or something, which would be pretty noticeable on the handle, not to mention, I highly doubt that they do these things so unconciously that they would just keep on doing the same thing the second they feel the pin prick of the needle, I think that it would be very unlikely, not to mention that the idea that depending on what the weather was like, and how hot and dry it was, HIV might have not have lived long enough to infect anyone. Theres a big difference using a needle 5 minutes after one another when shooting up with some H, versus waiting 12-24 hours before piercing the skin, granted that doesn't eliminate the possibility of other viruses being present.
HIV is by far one of the weakest viruses when it is not in a habitat that is conducive to it's survival, in fact, when introduced to air, it only survives around 5-6 minutes, so after that the chances of it infecting anyone are around 1/1,000,000. Even when the virus is actually not dormate, but actually striving, there is still only a 1/10,000 chance that you will truely be infected, depending on the ammount of spores that enter your blood streem.

Not to mention that people who post/ forward these ridiculous urban legends are complete idiots.
If people would take a moment and think before forwarding or posting crap like this they would be doing the world a huge favor.
Instead one idioit forwards it to everyone they know, then another person does , etc .
Don't forget to tell us about not flashing our brights at people cause it's a gang intiation.

nobody has commented on how hard it is to obtain the HIV virus?? 03mustang was right too, the virus would die before anyone could prick their finger.
