Hey guys, i know i've posted before about 4.10 gears because my car a DD.  But know i have a new question(s), I cross the line at the track in 3rd gear about 6200rpm(yes, redline)  I have the stock 3.55 gearing and I'm woundering what gear/rpm are you crossing the line at and what gear size you have.

I'm trying to see if i got 3.73/ what gear/rpm i would be at and the same for 4.10's.

thanks again.

I read somewhere (on this site) that traps speeds didn't change between 3.73s and 4.10s.

could be wrong though..everyone that has 4.10s either loves them or have swapped them
out for the 3.73..of course some of them has FI.

well my rpm/gear gotta change from my 3.55.  I'm crossing 3rd gear redline, so 3.73 should put me into 4th, but i wounder at what rpm w/ te 3.73 and the 4.10s.

If you're crossing the line in 3rd gear at the redline with 3.55s, then if you switch to 3.73s, you could actually hurt you ET a bit. You'll be damn near the end of the track when you have to shift into fourth, and you may lose more time from making the extra shift than you gain from having the lower gears. I say go for the 4.10s.

I am an auto but the car has always shifted into 4th with 3.73 gears before trap, tune is set to shift at 6200 RPM.

It's like my car kicks a** for the 1/8 mile, still need something for the top end, I know I need a manual !!!   lol

NOS in my future ?

I dont have any of ur modd's dess, so they may be right about putting it right into 4th at the line.  With time and money(mostly money) I'll prob have intake/tune, shaft, and dr's.

but what rpm are u guys at w/ the 4.10's?  like 4500 in 4th @ the line?

and what does every think about having 4.10's on a DD?

According to this calculator and my trap speeds, i'm at 5825rpms.  I recorded my rpms and mph using the aeroforce gauge to see if my clutch was slipping and this calculator was spot on with the numbers I got from the gauge.

badass cal.  thanks, it showing that at about 2650 rpm w/ 3.73 u'll be at 80+ mph...nice, since my car is DD.  It shows i'll have to hit 3 for 80 w/ the 4.10's...

I have 4.10s for my DD, I don't see a problem, except traction on stock tires. I would say the easiest of all shifts is 3-4, so at the track I don't see an extra shift negating the increased acceleration of a more agressive ratio. 3-4 should happen in the blink of an eye.

I don't quite understand going from a stock 3.55 to 3.73. The expense of buying the gear and having it installed for such a slight increase in gearing seems like a waste (for 5 speed manual owners). I just figure if you going to take the plunge, go all the way and really feel the difference. If I were planning on going FI, I'd just keep the stock ratio.

I think your missing something that is glaring at you in the face anyway...  If your crossing the line as your hitting the rev limiter... ANY mod you do now that will increase your trap speed or ET should require you to shift.  Why not get the better mechanical advatage of gears out if it first...

Tho I have to ask... Are you sure your hitting 6200 rpm's at 104 mph and not slightly after the traps.  3rd gear in my car (manual and 3.55's) I hit 6250 rpms at 110 mph.  It might not seem like it, but 6 mph at the traps is a big difference.

I dont know, 110 seems alot but you might be right; i might be hitting like 6100.  Either way; I"m pretty sure I'm redline it.

I know it's just a cal but when i type in 6500( I know w/ alot of custom tune they bump it up to 6500) and 3.73 gear; u'll be hitting around 107-108mph in third gear @ 6500...so maybe 3.73 are the best for a bolt on gt?
