Replacement Clutch

justiniida -> Replacement Clutch (5/5/2008 9:15:23 PM)

Hey guys, bad news. I am running a 2007 mustang v6 with 20,000 miles on it. I noticed my clutch started to slip and I brought it to ford and they told me they great old news that I need a new clutch and its 1,500 bucks (700 for labor). He also told me that the OEM clutch is not very good, in that case I am searching for a new aftermarket clutch. I don't need a racing clutch or anything, but something thats going to be reliable and last me a long time! I understand how its how you drive the car but I did not drive hard on my car.

Anyways, if anyone has a suggestion on what company/model I should go with please let me know.

Thanks,
Justin

700 in labor?  dont even see how thats possible.

ive pulled my trans so many times i could do a clutch in less than an hour in and out.

I guess my 07 is due for slippage anytime now?
What a pisser, 20,000 miles and slippage already.
And not even driving her hard? Slipping the clutch
to maintain position on hills instead of using the brakes?
Do you side step the clutch or ever so slowly let the
clutch out with high RPMs to get started from a stop?
I just want to understand your driving habits and
what went wrong so I can try and avoid premature clutch falure.
Its the 9" Pontiac Fiero undersized clutch
premature failure problem all over again?

ive driven mine pretty conservatively, letting it out easy but only giving gas at the pressure point... my dad drives it a lot harder than i do.  i dont drop it but every once in a while and i have 62K miles on it.  I finally need to replace it and i think im going with the spec 2 or 3 seeing as im going procharger this summer

my clutch has slipped a few times and it just cracked 16k.

ofcourse i abuse it... just dont tell my stealership that...

I sometimes side step the clutch but I never keep my foot on the clutch or keep the clutch in a lot.

Does anyone have suggestions for a new clutch? Spec or Centerforce?

oh6vee6 -> RE: Replacement Clutch (5/6/2008 12:57:02 PM)

Be careful on the replacement. I know the 07 is different than the 05/06's.  I have seen a new Spec clutch not fit due to changes made by Ford on the 07 and up cars.  Spec was unaware of the problem.  They are redesigning it to fit these cars(but now my friend has no car till then)

what about centerforce?

what are the signs or what does a slipping clutch feel like? this may sound like a dumb question but I have never had a car where the clutch has gone out.....

is it something like if you ease it into first gear and give it gas your RPM's go up but your speedo remains constant?

justiniida -> RE: Replacement Clutch (5/6/2008 10:36:51 PM)

anyone for centerclutch?

phunnyguy -> RE: Replacement Clutch (5/6/2008 10:49:19 PM)

anyone got the centerforce clutch??? how do you like it, is it on your daily driver?

i replaced mine at 40 000 (with another new  stock v6 clutch.)...one too many burnouts with tcs on by mistake....ouch!
