View Full Version : 540 HP...How?
Agleon 05-05-2008, 03:02 PM Well I was looking to supercharge my stang and saw that on brenspeed they have a stage 4 saleen blower with 540 HP. Would else would I need. Even though 540hp might not be around my budget area.
Would I need a new block or can I just use my old block with this. http://haneymotorsport.com/HMS%204.6%20Rotating%20Kits.htm
UberHax0r 05-05-2008, 03:15 PM did you bother to read the description on brenspeed's site?
"Forged short block recommended at this power level"
seems pretty clear to me what you should get [8D]

+1 and if you have a limited budget in this, stay away from stage 4 kit. Stick with the 2.

brad281 05-05-2008, 04:16 PM Forged internals for sure. Brenspeed and a lot of blown engine mf's know that power isn't sustanable on stock internals.
Agleon 05-05-2008, 07:29 PM I've been trying to find info on what I need to sustain 500hp+ but I just don't know what to look up.
Passing 500rwhp requires some extra money to play with 15000.00 -18000.00 to get to the 600-650 mark and if you want to pass go to 700-750 You had better be ready to dig DEEP . I know that for about 5-6k I made 500/450 with my Procharger p1 set up and some days I wish I had it again at 425/380 and still having fun with my car it has been 16 mo since I have driven my car . My point is if you go for to much or try to push the limit then be prepared to pay the price as it is large and you will have down time.

I bought my P1SC and pushed it to 550 on the stock block. I blew my block that day my car was down until I could get money to replace every thing that broke in the process plus a motor. I would of had more fun driving a 400rwhp car around then looking at a garage ordiment
zkiller 05-06-2008, 07:42 AM I have been going two years on stock block over 500 HPto the wheels.
The key to keeping it together at that level is a safe tune (11.5 A/F) and good fuel. I run 100 octane all the time. Any detonation at allrunning this level power and the little toothbrush sized rods could disintegrate. The other factor that kills these stock motors is over-revving them. I suspect the two Prochargers that killed their motors (above) were exceeding 6400 RPM. Prochargers can make power easily to 7000 RPM. These little rods just cant take that much RPM under boost. I have my shiftpoints set for 6100 RPM even though I am still making power at 6300 RPM.
I will do a forged shortblock some point in the future but I am still pushing the stock block this year.
Yea, 6800rpm my bad . LOL
tached_out 05-07-2008, 12:58 AM I was under 6000 when it blew, just bad luck with me. We were doing my street tune and were datalogging it the entire time. No signs of detonation just flate out bad luck and to much power. I think 500 is the limit for power and thing higher is a huge risk. I had 545rwhp
Boozshey 05-07-2008, 03:56 AM I am curious to know the amount of boost you guys that blew you engines were running... 11psi+?
tached_out 05-07-2008, 04:05 AM 10lbs pulley that made 9.5psi I watched a guy blow his motor with a roush blower making 415rwhp at the dealership lol thats bad luck but luckly for him every thing was covered. For mine yeah no dice...
But the best thing about being in the blown motor club is that most of us are also memebers of the 5.0 Stroker club as well :)
12psi ,500rwhp ,425rwtq ,and auto trans. +35deg. temp so maybe 13 or 14 psi at kaboom! A perfect example of pushing things to far .
Boozshey 05-07-2008, 07:21 AM From my research, it is to get as much HP as you can with no more than 10lbs of boots... It isn't the HP that blows it, it's the boost level that does...

What kind of research? Have you been testing stock blocks with various boost levels?
I have been on 11 PSI for two years. My boost gauge hits 13 PSI easily on a cool day.
Boozshey 05-07-2008, 10:48 AM Just a gathered pool of everyones blown engines story. Nothing scientific so chill out... Glad you haven't blown it, but I can't say I don't want it to now so I can say, "Told ya so..."
zkiller 05-07-2008, 01:12 PM Sorry when I hear research, I take it as "real" research.
Maybe mine will blow when I put on the 12 pound pulley next week. I bet it doesnt though!
Boozshey 05-07-2008, 01:15 PM Well then I will hold my tongue until next week... ;)
phatphil 05-07-2008, 01:30 PM zkilller, are you still running your Brenspeed tune?
Simon1 05-07-2008, 02:04 PM Good luck to all of you pushing the limit
Hey I have one of those!

tached_out 05-07-2008, 10:53 PM i wish i had a picture of mine :)
My block had that same hole in it but it also looked like a V6 engine with two HUGE cylinders lol I was missions some walls on the inside of my block and I have no clue where one of my pistons went lol we only found 6 rods and 7 pistons but allot of metal shavings in my oil pan haha

Well then run 10psi and a 100 shot of nitrous and call it a day. Alternative auto ran 17psi on the stock block for quite a few 1/4 mile passes before finally blowing it.
zkiller 05-08-2008, 05:30 PM I think tuned for 12 PSI is the absolute limit and that is if you have the luck of the Irish too.
I saw a guy post that he vented his block at 8 PSI on a KB 2.4 with the KB tune. There are a lot of factors that can contribute to early rod failure beside the boost level. Needless to say if you really want a reliable motor to push at the track frequently then you need to be forged. I am just not ready to drop the green on a entire longblock yet, but may be forced to when I vent my own block.
