They were underrated....my buddy that used to post here, silverz28 or w/e his name was, made 258rwhp stock....

Kinda like my '98 TA made 325rwhp with a simple cutout....through an automatic, yet it was rated at 305hp at the crank.

Yeah, about 250 is what an auto LT1 will make. I also saw a '96 WS6 6speed that made 286whp, with nothing but a Loudmouth catback. They must respond well to bolt-ons too, since the bolt-on record for an LT1, is around 330rwhp. That reminds me, I need to get my car dynoed sometime soon, to see what I'm making.

eh i still would say I'd have to believe it to see it, someone finally opened up to me on LS1LT1.com to my thread asking about it and they said morely in the range what i was thinking, a guy said a member put down 230rwhp 260-70rwtq in his A4.  I'd have to see a dyno slip to believe a LT1 putting down 250 to the wheels, not saying you're wrong but I can't just go off what someone says online or I'd have a crapload of false info ya know

here's his post:
I belive a memeber on here w/ the s/n of Scott Anderson dyno'd his 97 TA A4 at ~232 rwhp and about ~265-270 rwtq. I've heard of a lot of other bone stock LT1's in that general range w/in 2-5 hp and tq stock.

i ran a FULL BOLT on 03 gt with 3.73s from a 15 and pulled him by 3 cars to 110 and still pulling strong(he ran 8.7s@81 or something, im sure a full bolt on geared auto would give me somewhat of a run at the strip since im a 6 speed car, but on the highway ive never came close to losingto a mustang GT and ive raced like 5-6...

I did however almost loose to an bonestock 01 cobra about a month ago....
I seen him getting on the highway, and quickly did the same, but i got beside him and seen it was some old man so i was like wtf hes want race me so i dropped it into 3rd and jumped at him and just took off to see if hed bite but he didnt...but after i let off he came flying back by me as i did him...so i got beside him at like 70-80 im in 5th at like 3k and hes a car back from me and he guns it and as soon as he gets even with me i drop it to 4th(around 3600) shoulda went to 3rd and been around 42-4400 but oh well, he pulled a car to about 90 which is right where my car was starting to make decent power(4400-4800) and i stopped his pull and slowly pulled back by 6k in 4th or 120mph where i just had got about 1/4 car in front of him...
Im just assuming it was stock because i could barley hear it over my LT's and SLP LMs, it may have had a CAI or Flows but i highly doubt anymore than that...but my car was def faster if i had of went to 3rd id prolly had 1-2 cars on him by 120 and with an even start 3 or so

Hells yeah.. I've been on the fence about that being one of my first main mods or not.  The jump is gas mileage alone would be worth it for me.

yeah, i've been looking at turbos for MPG purposes, i mean it take stress off the motor and places it on the turbos, and works well in diesel, but how much would it really help on a gas motor?

I've heard a gain of ~5mpg...  which isn't great but considering I see ~30 right now...it's fairly tempting.

Some Opticraps were bad straight from the get go,  and some cars are poorly maintained.  It also depends on the dyno...I don't think people were as aware of the dynojet/mustang dyno differences back when LT1 cars were getting dynoed.  Not to mention lack of paper scanners, the internet (as it is today), etc...  Typically you see results posted from cars with very little info (very old old and poor memory of the event) or a car that someone just purchased and dynoed recently.  Very tough to get accurate results of what a brand new 1993, 1994,1995, etc LT1 car would have dynoed unless a magazine did it back in the day and published it.

its the gearing that makes them slow.

My car was wicked fast when I first got and all it had was headers. No tuning or any mods in the engine (trust me it's sitting in my garage in pieces.) and I raced 2 GT''s 95-98ish and a 5.0 and beat them all by a couple cars each. (4 lenths for the 5.0) so unless these cars were severly underpowered or my car was a freak I think they put out more. I don't know. I've been wrong before.  So maintinance has a lot to do with it.  Now I've got a block with only 24k on it and a brand new top end and a tune this thing screams.  It scary to think that there are cars out there with more power.

I've never sat and compared them to another car...that is an interesting point to ponder.  Hmmm...
