My cobra has about 463rwhp and im still upgrading and i shredded my Mcleod clutch (POS). I've heard of this 26 spline shafts. Are they really worth the money? and if they are, what would be the best clutch to get for it? thanks

26 the spline count of the transmission input shaft. The higher the spline count, the stronger the input shaft. I don't know if your car has that or not, but I don't think so. Changing that would require taking the trans apart, and replacing the input shaft.

I use a Cenetrforce dual friction clutch in my track car. This care makes about 550hp, but the car only weighs 2400#. The clutch is a little stiff, but it can sure handle the abuse.

if youre making more than 550 to the wheels, its worth upgrading to the 26 spline. so stock you have the 10 spline.
im currently in need of one also. I'm leaning towards the spec stage 3, with a torque limit of 680.
it's best priced at brenspeed.com something like 325 with free shipping.

let me know what you go with.

later.

Spec stage 3/3+ seem to be pretty popular with the cobras. I know a few people who have that setup and they swear by it.

I dont want to go over 550hp. 500 would be ideal for me because i use it about twice a weekto give hersome exercise and the occasional drag (maybe once a month) so you're telling me the 26 spline wouldnt be necessary? The tranny is already off the car and since it was off i was considering changing the spline even though i have no idea how. (but i guess thats what mustangforums is here for). So then i should just buy a good 10 spline clutch then? If i misunderstand please let me know, thanks for the help guys

so if 500 is ideal for you, the 26 spline input shaft wouldn't be necessary. Once you start modding and know the difference in power output, you'll want more. If you're deadset on 500 with no means of going higher, the 26 spline input shaft isn't needed.

The spec stage 3 clutch kit is the one i suggest you get. it's fairly priced at brenspeed along with free shipping. Its the one imma get even though im stock besides a chrome cai. But im planning on doing mods once some cash free's up for me.

a lot of guys in here get the spec brand clutch. so i did some research and think that its worth getting. i havent heard anything bad about them. stage 3 is rated at 680 ft/lbs. so its a buy once, buy right.

Im sure this kind of clutch isnt the best for daily driving but how bad is it? i've read in a magazine that those types of clutches dont use springs and it can drive you crazy when you're not on the track. Is this true or just an exaggeration?

just get the 26 spline upgrade. the 10 spline is literally a POS, and i have seen countless 500 hp mustangs shear their 10 spline input shafts. hell, even a month ago at the shop, a whipple 2007 mustang gt sheared his second 10 spline.. now he's upgraded to a gt500kr t-56, so he should be set...

and to 562cobra, ur car seems to be lacking some serious power.... even for BONE stock...

Yeah, i know, no money for mods [&o].

i had a misfire cylinder a couple days before. replaced them all with some ngk's, but left them factory gapped at i believe .054-.055. so i guess that was a mistake :(. should i regap them at 30 something? i will be deleting my sig power til i have more [8D].

Anyone that says the 26 spline isn't worth getting in these cars is retarded. Sorry, someone had to say it.

The fact is, is that the cars should've come with it. There are countless ones that snap just off of hard launches with a pulley and tune. Spend the extra money now and get the 26 spline input shaft.

I had a Spec 3 w/Fidanza flywheel in my Cobra and it was great... wasn't to hard on the pedal, the only thing that sucked was the break in period - clutch chatter was HORRIBLE at first, but it eventually straightened out in the end.

yep! I know to many Terminators that busted the input shaft with ~400rwhp on launches.. The car never should have come with the 10 spline.

So this 26 spline input shaft, any sites where it can be purchased? and any installation sites?

incase the 10 spline breaks, will the car no longer move? (noobie ?) or can it safely be driven home? [&o]

You can purchase them from Lethal Performance of LFP.

i bought the clutch from the actual spec website for 249.xx or something like that with free shipping. I'll see what they can do for me, but i think it has already been shipped

you can probably return it - might have to pay return shipping. The 26 spline input shaft itself costs an extra 200 or so..

and normally when you bust the TOB or the input shaft your car aint really movin far... if at all, lol

you guys seem to know a lot, especially you kazp3. i took the tranny out and when i make up my mind, i want to put it all back together. Can you guys tell me what the torque is on the pressure plate and that center screw inside it all? and any other critical bolts? or where i can find the specs or even a manual because i want to take off and send my supercharger to get bored out as well.

Chiltons or Haynes manuals should have the torque specs... I do not.

I don't have the manuals for the car anymore, it went when I sold mine.
