Well got my camera back from Sony after they fixed it, and its my first Saturday off in 3 weeks. So I decided to take some time and detail the car. Washed and waxed using obsessive details Wet Wax. I'll be getting the Porter cable from him in the next couple weeks so this was by hand. Wheels and tires were done by products bought from his site. Great products and sponsor. Unfortunatly, it was cloudy day so it doesn't look as good in the pics as it could. Sorry guys, I know I Picwhore out my car to much lol

Here they are. First time I have ever posted pics of my engine bay also.

Thanks man. Do the install yourself. It takes time but its well worth it in the end. I got the very first production set on my car. So I picked them up from him for his preorder price. Then took itto a painter. Only cost me $80 to get them painted. The guy didn't realize ahead of time how much work was involved in painting. So I made out pretty good lol. Marcello (silverhorseracing) has a guy who does all his so its easier for his painter.

Its my one and only vehicle so it sees rain every time it rains in Florida. I don't mind rain, helps clean it sometimes lol. It does get kept in the garage when I'm home though

I might have to give that a try. I need to be looking good for this cruise/show I'm going to. I just bought a clay bar kit from Mothers in hopes to start on the right foot. I have so many water spots on the Mach it's disgusting. So the Wet Wax huh? Was that all you used?

Are polishers hard to use or learn to use?

redfireshaker06

I don't think they are hard to use. I have found tutorials online. Get a Porter Cable from Justin at Obsessive detail. I WILL get one sooner or later lol

Thanks. I enjoy "wax on, wax off" by hand, especially on a warm Saturday afternoon, music from the garage and a cold beverage. Wax under my fingernails and a slight ache in my arms. It's like therapy. :)

Waxing by hand and polishing by hand are completely different. Polishing by hand is damn near worthless. You just can't do enough to really get out swirls and polish the paint by hand, and if you did it would take forever (like a week).

However, Waxing by hand I do prefer. I feel like I control the application of the wax more when I do it by hand.

I do have a random orbital polisher, sort of like this:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31U4gogxdOL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
I would not use it on my Mustang, but I could try the orbital to polish my Subaru.

I agree. Getting imperfections out by hand is really not advisable. I don't do it and I don't think anyone should do it if they are serious about getting your car perfect. The only thing I ever recommend along those lines is someone using Scratch-X for a spot treatment by hand. Waxing by hand or using a DA is really personal preference. Personally I like to use some products on the DA like NXT while some products like #16 I like to put on by hand.

That 'polisher' is good to put wax or glaze on and nothing more. It's not worth the trash bag you'll throw it in after you get a PC.

As for the original poster, if you think your finish looks good now...wait until you get a PC.

I won't say anything bad about your finish now, but you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about when you get a PC! Figuring you did all that by hand and it looks THAT good with high quality products, imagine what it's going to look like combining those products with a good polisher. You'll crap!

Agreed, that screams problems to me. I've seen too many believe that they can use one of those tools that they found in their garage or attic. Than come to me for advice or help to fix it. I'd rather apply by hand than use that. A DA will change your life, especially the Flex.;)

The PC is totally worth it, you can take your paint to a level that you can't achieve by hand, plus it is safe to use.

Justin, I'm considering the package on your site with the PC 7424, plate + 3 cutting pads.

I have your light polish. It this all I'd need to get started? No microfiber pads?

Juztang
05-09-2008, 09:40 AM
From what I can tell of the condition of your paint, the Light Polish is all that you will need to get started.

The kit does come with 3 pads, a light cutting pad, polishing pad, and a finishing pad. You will use the light cutting and polishing pads to put on polishes/swirl removers and the finishing pad to put on glazes, sealants, and waxes. I do recommend getting a couple of extra finishing pads so that you don't have to worry about stopping and cleaning the pads before you move onto the next product. I don't even use microfiber pads at all. The foam pads is all that you need.

Margarita Girl
05-09-2008, 09:43 AM
So the three pads are to apply the product? I remove by hand?

Juztang
05-09-2008, 09:46 AM
Yes the pads are to apply the products, then you just remove them with a microfiber.
