Major traction issues

Last night my buddy was talking **** about how badass his dad's stock Maruader was and said it was going to destroy the fox. I bring the car out once we were sure we wouldn't be bothered we lined up. I dusted off the tires in the usual fashion and added a little extra because it was cold out. We were at a dead stop and he did his three honks and I launched in the usual way, but to my suprise no controlled spin, just flat out spinning through first and second gear and I was stillonly a car behind.

We tried it again and I lowered the rpms for the launch but still spun just as bad. We go for a third time and I held the revs just above idle and still spun all the way through first gear but had him by 2.5 lengths at the end of the race. Right now I have a set of BFG all season tires that have decent amounts of tread on them. I have practiced my launches before and have been able to launch at a little over 2k rpms with controlable wheel spin in 1st, but never any traction problems in 2nd. Could it just have been the weather because I know it was a little cold out, or do I need to upgrade to the DRs before the turbo install?

Why anyone mods a car and then uses a regular street tire is beyond me. A drag radial should be everyones first mod, at least if your going to try and race people

Well I got the car with those tires and they seemed to be holding up to my driving until last night. I launched the same way I always do, feathering the clutch but it just spun and spun.[:@]

Hrrmm.. that's a tough one brudda.. though I'd be tempted to make an edumacated guess and say it's a combination of the two. Cold weather plus all season tires is gonna make for some pretty unwanted traction problems methinks.. I'm kinda thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade to the DR's with the turbo, and maybe keep the all seasons on a set of spare rims for when the weather's not so good ya know?

I planned on getting all my stuff at once, but I guess I am going to be ordering my ballin 15s and my DRs sooner than I thought.

If its any consolation I pulled a 4v up top.

We wen't from a 30 roll to a little over 120 and I had him by a solid 4 cars.

Actually All-Seasons work better than Summer Rubber when its cold. That said you are going to need some stickier rubber for the street.

If its more of an all-round streettype set-up use Nitto 555RII's. They use the same compound as the R's but without the soft sidewalls.

If its more of a straightline type set-up use MT's or M&H's.

If real street rubber is mandatory use Kumho MX's. Unlike most street tires they react well to being heated.
