Hi I have an 06 Mustang GT with the shaker 500 system. Can I purchase the 1000 head unit and plug it right in or are there any modifications that have to be made? And is there any difference between teh two or is it the amps that make the difference? The only reason I ask is because I'm getting ready to install a sub and amp and was hoping the 500 would provide enough power for the mids and highs. I thought the 1000 would be better because more power or is it the external amps that make it the "1000 watts"? Thanks for your help.

they are not the same head unit, the shaker 1000 has the output for the rear subs. its built into the plug for the front sub so you might not notice it. you need the sub box for the shalker 1000 and the amp pack for the shaker 1000 it has 4 amps instead of 2, you might also need the wiring harness that goes to the trunk of the car to hook up the rear subs to but i have heard that shaker 500 cars might have this harness

it really is not worth it to build a system off of the factory head unit since the stock indash changers are just as reliable as an 84 yugo....  We have a couple of people a month come on here asking how to fix the err message since it jammed.  They just put too much into into it and made more that can go wrong.  You can tweek the shaker system a little with a better aftermarket deck but fi you want more bass I would recommend just adding a small amp and sub to suppliment the factory sysem, until the deck does die.

I would rip out the deck and slap it on ebay where you can probably get $75-100 for it while it is still working, and somebody will buy it to replace their broken deck.  Put that towards a good cd player and you are on your way.

we can recommend a couple of options if you let us know what you want, and how much you want to spend.

If you can get them cheep enough you can make it worth it.  Heck i just put a shaker 1000 hu in focus.  why?  because i have time to waste.  now granted i only used one amp wired up to a harness that i had to make  But it liked the look of the 05+ radios in the 05+ focus and i did not want to spend about 70 bucks just to get my swc to work on another radio that would be an additional cost.  in total i spend about 190 buck with the bulk of that being on my door speakers being MB Quart  and all my parts came from doners except for the wire harnesses those were a metra product and the rca signal lines and the power and ground were from knukoncepts (my favorate wire maker) and i have it preped for the future
