View Full Version : FRPP all the way around....

Well I just installed the FRPP handling pack shocks, struts, springs and strut tower brace. I already had the sways, so now it's the complete set.No one had the FRPP CAI kit, so I also got it and installed it along with the FR tune. It feels very comparable to my Bama 93 perf tune so I'm happy. I worked graveyard shift the last couple of weeks, and I haven't slept yet, so no pics until later. The install was pretty smooth, took me about 4 hours working cautiously. The intake itself, took about 10 minutes. One note about the FR pro-cal... compared to the xcal, it takes forever to load. No wonder the instructions recommend hooking up to a battery chargerbefore starting the tune upload. The intake and suspension stuff got here on Tuesday, I registered for the procal that evening and it got here Thursday. Ford Racing over-nighted it, which was cool.
I really didn't want to lower the car, but I figured what the heck, the springs were only $159. If I have issues, I'll put the stock springs back on. FR site says it only lowers it 1.25". I haven't measured after yet, but I did before. I'm just too tired to even take pics. I didn't use the included camber bolts. FR has you grind out the lower hole on the strut, I'm not doing that unless absolutely necessary. Got to have the alignment checked. Just eyeballing it, doesn't look like camber is an issue. If it is, I'll try the cam style, upper hole camber bolts first. The suspension stuff did not come with instructions. I used Tacobill's link in his spring install to get the specs.
The intake looks sweet, the embossed FR logo comes painted red and white. The fit was dead on, and it came with all the little stuff, like a plug for a big hole thats there for no reason and a stud and clip nut for the front mounting bracket (if you have ABS you just replace a bolt with the stud), an E.O. C.A.R.B sticker to put on the strut tower, and a 91 octane sticker (that I ruined, because it's too big to fit neatly on the inside of the fuel door. It came with it's own air tube that is bigger than the stocker, but necks down just before the throttle body. The only issue I had with the kit, it doesn't come with MAF sensor screws. The new intake has brass, fine threaded inserts, the stock MAF screws are coarse threaded self-tapping kind (on my at least). Good thing is the C&L screws worked perfectly.
Ok, I'm going to sleep now. Pics to follow.

now you need a FRPP badge somewhere on your car. its definitely appropriate in your case.

Where did you get the springs for $159? And I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be a 1.5"drop.

I am really interested in seeing how the car looks with the suspension. My wife isn't sure if she wants it for hers or not. Also would like to know if the ride is any more rough than before. She likes her ride better than mine now. How does it run compared to stock?
thanks

I got'em here:

But if you read the specs at Ford Racing Parts:

It says 1.25".

I didn't know they made them. I was thinkingabout the "Racing" rocker stripes at graphics express. Hmm.. don't know.

I just took measurements after, in the front, it dropped 5/16" max. In the rear, 3/4" max drop. I haven't driven it very far yet, so I'm sure the springs need to settle in, but it wasn't a dramatic effect so far.

All I'm going by is FR's claim on the handling pack, 1.25". I've got all the components of the kit, so I was quoting that measurement. Not going to argue over a 1/4". So far, the drop hasn't been any where near either claim.

It is much stiffer than stock, I wouldn't call it harsh, but you can feel everything in the road. Since it's pretty much the same suspension on the Shelby GT, you can compare your ride tohers, and make the decision. I like it, the car doesn't feel like a rocking horse now during acceleration and shifting, and during braking.

If i were to guess I would say they are the louvers from wheelskin or the 3Dcarbon louvers

Which Strut Bar is that? I thought on the V6 one the bars were black.

It's the Ford Racing V6 strut tower brace M-20201-F as seen in the handling pack:

Just an update to this install. After running the kit down the interstate on a trip, I discovered it was too harsh for extended travel. For daily driving around town, and back and forth to work (for me it's less than 10 miles) I really didn't notice it. Out on the interstate at speed, the car felt like a go cart with no forgiveness. It really beat my tail, back hurt, kidneys ached, head pounded... get the picture... So I reinstalled the stock springs and kept everything else in the kit installed to see how it worked. So far this configuration has been tolerable. Still nice and stable in the corners, just not as harsh on the bumps, but not the same as stock either. It doesn't dive as much under braking as stock, or at least it seems that way, I'll assume the kit struts have a different compression dampening setting, because the car just doesn't bottom out over the really bad road areas like it did when it was stock. Even speed bumps, are bumps that can be taken at speed now... One note on the FRPP sways, they came with this clearish lube that appeared to be some kind of silicone grease to use on the bushings. It's crap. I mean sticky, hard to clean off your hands and anything else you managed to touch whilst applying it crap. And, it doesn't last. I had a noise coming from underneath the rear of the car since last winter for months,(I bought the sways first, then the rest of the kit later) that sound exactly like parts of my dual exhaust kit banging around when I went over bumps. I spent hours checking bolts, retightening, adjusting, moving stuff, and I still heard it. Then when I went to install the rest of the FRPP handling pack I finally discovered where the sound was coming from. THE REAR SWAY BAR! There are no grease fittings where the sway bar and the link meet, and that silicone goo had gotten so sticky and grabby that the twisting action of the poly bushing on the sway created a loud metallic screech, much like the sound of a stuck bolt when you try to loosen it. It was so hard to turn the link on the sway, I could barely rotate it by hand! I had to use WD40 to remove the sticky goo and used regular grease to lube all the bushings and that eliminated the noise. So anyone out there chasing a ghost sound with the FRPP handling pack installed... check there!

And, I no longer have any rocker stripe installed... Just don't have any updated pics. With the gas shortages around here lately, I reinstalled my C&L intake. With it, I have the option at least, of 87 octane, with FRPP CAI, I'm limited to 91+, and it has been very frustrating on more than one occasion, having to go on a quest for high octane fuel. Several times, no station around had anything above 87, and I wasted what precious little I had searching for more. Another reason I have postponed the X.... It's sure making the upgrade to the GT more practical in appearance...

Hey guys, since we're on the subject...

DO NOT BUY FRPP SPRINGS FROM BLUE OVAL INDUSTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are not the real deal and won't drop the car more than half an inch!
Even though they claim it will.
They are not the M-5300-K and they don't come with the front rubber dust boots.

There's a thread in the tech section about this and plenty of other websites have similar thread from people being screwed from Blue Oval as well.

Pass that info to your peers...

themac, congrats on your mods...
The harsh feel is normal since you gave up the comfort zone for handling.
Lot more fun now...

You should consider putting the springs back on and replacing the shocks with tokico d-specs, that way you can adjust your ride quality and still keep the lowering and performance.

I have the FRPP springs and tokico d-specs and while I don't mind giving up ride quality, I can always soften up the shocks.

What do you have for sways?

ODDYSEY
10-06-2008, 04:53 PM
I haven't done anything with the sways yet. But when I do I will be getting the BMR sway bars. Since I have the BMR adj. panhard, and the BMR match my tokico's :)

Sway bars shouldn't affect the ride quality in a negative way. The biggest change in ride quality was when I changed out my shocks/struts.
