Hello, while I know this doesn't pertain just to 4 cylinders I'm looking at a 4 cylinder fox body from 93 that is a convertible. What problem areas should I look for? Are these cars prone to leaking? What are problems of the 4 cyl. engine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The main issues are matinance. If its not been treated good, it will run like shyt.

Look for rust and the A4LDs (auto) are known for going bad/having a bad modulator. The ICM is also a little PITA sometimes

I have a 93 with about 140k miles on it. It has been rock solid for me, and I don't drive it easy all the time. It has been the most reliable car my whole family has owned, with the exception of our newest car. The only thing I don't like is buying 8 plugs and wires at a time and stupid things like that (dual plug head). The 93's are probably the most reliable of the four cylinders, as they were the most efficient, and the last year of four cylinder. I don't know any "problem areas" unique to 93's. Hope I helped.

I think the main issue is probably the transmission. (unless its a standard) If its an auto,make sure the fluid level is good & it doesnt leak.

Obviously, you have to take it for a test drive. Listen for ANY weird sounds, check ALL the fluid levels, and make sure it idles smooth. Also, make sure the top actually goes down! Ask the guy any problems he's had with it and why hes selling it.

How much are they asking for it?

With convertibles, look for rust in the floor board. Especially if you see that the front edges of the door panels have water damage.

Car seems to be in nice shape. Has 79,000 miles and are asking 4k for it. Not sure how much should I expect to pay for one of these? Top is down in some of the pictures, but I guess they could be from a different era lol. Is there any good way to make sure a convertible doesn't leak? Or to fix one that might be leaking? Don't pay $4k for it. Mine was 60000 miles and $2300 when i got it. Talk him down. My car was in pristene shape when I got it, so I know you can do better than 4 grand. I'd say don't pay more than 3k, but only that high because it's a convertible.

I dunno... I had a hard time finding a clean "low" milage 'vert for less than 3k. Ebay and whatnot. And they had bids, so there is a market.

Yeah, everyone prices them high to get suckers to pay for it. Do your research, no 4cyl mustang is worth $4k except maybe a pristine condition svo. I could get a decent gt for 4k in my area. Sellers almost always overprice their cars. There's an 89 gt vert in town that they wanted nearly 9 grand for. The car was worth maybe $5500. I bet this car you are looking at isn't even worth 2k. Run used car values, and take a good look at this car to determine just how much it is (or isn't I guess) worth.

The fact of the matter is, no matter what any book says, the value of anything is what people will pay for it. And the clean 93 4cyl verts out there are selling for around 3-4k People want a mustang convertible, but don't want a high gas bill.

The fact that I've seen multiple bids on a $3k+ car on ebay doesnt mean there are suckers, it means that the "value" is less than what people are willing to pay to buy one, and that is the real value of anything.

Granted, but you can also sucker the seller if you can convince him/her that no one will pay that much.

The coupe's are more desirable because they're an excellent modding platform for a good v8 car, but even still it's hard to get 3k out of those. A convertible, on the other hand, is a very desireable car, even if it's 4cyl. It's hard to find one for less than 3k that isn't full of troubles.

That is all great info, I'm glad I asked that question. But I agree people tend to overprice for some negotiation room. Also seems to depend on what part of the country you are in to some degree. But same thing too as someone mentioned, all depends on what someone is willing to pay for it. I think low 3 would be worth it in really good condition, which it seems to be.

Find a pristine 5.0 convertible for a good price. You wont.

I paid 1700 for my 86, and it was rough. The entire interior was rough, something was wrong with every piece, the top was torn and worn out, every piece of weather stripping leaked, floor had holes, suspension and brakes were worn out, paint was shot. The car was rough. Everyone told me that 1700 for that car was a steal. Had 168K on it when I bought it.

If I had the money, I'd be willing to pay 3500-4000 on a pristine, reliable, low milage 2.3L convertible...if it were a 4 eye anyways.

i paid 3500 for mine and it dosent bother me one bit,the car is ultra clean. and it had 75k miles on it. i wouldnt have paid that much if it were a hatch or a conv.(i hate conv.) but i wanted a coupe for ever and when i saw the chance to get one i did:)

Yea the 3500 for a clean one seems to be in the right range for these cars from some of the sites I've been looking at. I guess like they say your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
