"Hmm, did some mods to your car did you? Well, bend over and bite down on this, because its going to sting a bit."

$1250/year previous............now $2933/year
Pretty sure I am not going to be insuring it during winter.........but still.

I wouldn't cancel during the winter and then reinstate you insurance during the summer, that will raise your rates as well. If you car is not a daily driver check into low milage programs. That might help you out.

Who is your carrier?

If I didn't tell them what I had done to the car, and I did get in an accident, they would not have to cover me.
Maybe I should have bought an AMG C63 instead............. [&:]

must be a canadian thing.. ;) State Farm doesn't charge extra for mods, nor do you have to disclose them.. they insure the vehicle, and all items that are permanent to it.. no matter what you have done to it... and legally in Arizonafailure to disclose performance mods wouldn't make them not cover it. but insurance rules change from state to state and im sure country to country..

State Farm doesn't even charge extra if you drop a new, and larger, engine in your car (last time I checked). They told me they go specifically by the VIN number. So... if you have a v-6 and drop in a v-8, for example, you still pay thev-6 rate. if you get in a wreck though and screw your engine up, then you are pretty much out of luck, but you are still paying lower rates.[/align]

Oh it's a Canadian thing unless your in Ontario it's even more. I'm having the same issues except I haven't actually installed Mr. Whipple yet, let alone ordered it.

State Farm up in Canada will drop you like a ROCK if you have lowering springs, different wheels ANYTHING that isn't stock so I've heard. I even heard from someone (they aren't with statefarm) the agent thought his shakker intake was the same as NOS!! (Which is illegal in ontario)

I'm with BelAir Direct and they told me as posted in another thread that Wheels, Brakes would be fine but if I install a supercharger they would drop my insurance. I now I have an inspection at some random point in time within the next 3 months to ensure I haven't done any mods.[:@][:@] mfers

Oh and another thing.. Currently in Ontario 50km/h (31.5mph) over the posted speed limit - on your highways it's 100km/h (62mph):
1) Automatic suspension of license for 7 days
2) Up to a $10,000 fine
3) They tow your car away for 7 days

And #4 they wanted to, but never passed: CRUSH ANY CAR that was deemed a "STREET RACER", think the Fast & **** movie! They even mentioned that damn **** movie when they were talking about this, we have more ricers in Ontario then anywhere else on the planet I'm pretty sure.[:'(]

Man the insurance companies you guys are talkin' about really suck. I work for USAA and all I need is a receipt for my add ons and I'm good. But if you have an at fault accident your rates should go up. Statictically you are a higher risk.

Sorry for your Ins. woes I hope This dosnt catch on in usa.
If you were in USA I would tell you to join mustang club of America and then go to The Classic car (Heacock) Insurance route. You can only drive 3000 miles a year but Insurance is under 500 bucks with Mods on an 07 full coverage. I also got a 66 worth 12k for 160 bucks a year. Just gotta sign milage statements-keep it garaged and no one under 24 can drive it but that was 1400 less than I was paying thru progressive for (what they call astated value policy)

progressive is usually more expensive.. and there is more to insurance companies than cost... I've only had to file 1 claim with my insurance company but it was nice knowing if i got hit by an uninsured or underinsured driver or hit and run then they would take care of me really well.. and my agent will make sure I'm happy with the claim process and results.. going through the other persons insurance you can get mad all you want.. they don't care..

Costco executive members (cost 100 bucks a year) has Ameriprise and it saves me 50% over Farmers. I need to check the mods rule though. My friend got his navigation and some other stuff ripped off and they only covered 1000.00 of the aftermarket stuff[&:]He had Geico

I agree but just CHANGE the insurance to fire/theft in the winter during storage and reinstate the FULL coverage in the spring. I do it all the time thru State Farm and have had no problems and it never went up by doing it that way;). I pay about 90 a month!:D J (and yes they know what I have done to the car)ORIGINAL: Back N Black

I have Agrreed value insurance thru Hagerty. Its not a daily driver so I decided to get the best coverage with a few coverage limits. I pay $720.00 a year with $45,000 agreed value & garage kept. Here's just some differences on coverage for you guys to chew on.

Insurance companies will use one of three different policy forms. They are generally known as Actual Cash Value, Stated Value or Stated Amount and Agreed Value or Agreed Amount. Each of these three forms is different, and often misunderstood and misrepresented by insurance agents.Collectible and classic and in some cases modified cars usually have a stable value and actually appreciate over time. Because the values are stable, an "Agreed Value" insurance policy should be purchased to protect a collectible auto. With an Agreed Value policy, if your car is stolen or totaled, you will receive the Agreed Value listed in writing on your auto policy. Most standard insurance companies don't offer an Agreed Value policy. Actual Cash Value (ACV)This coverage can usually be provided by standard auto policies. At the time of a complete loss the insurance company claims adjuster will decide what your car is worth. You may have some input, if you do not agree with the claims adjuster, but in the end the insurance company decides the final settlement. If you don't agree with the settlement, you may have no choice except to seek legal action, or arbitration if specified by your policy agreement. Stated Amount or Stated Value This policy is often misunderstood, and frequently used for collector cars. Most insurance agents represent stated amount or state value policies as being the same as "Agreed Amount." It is not! A "Stated Amount" policy usually says the insurance company will pay the lesser of: The Stated Amount or The cost to repair the covered auto not to exceed the "Stated Amount" or The "Actual Cash Value" The "Stated Amount" helps determine the premium cost but is no guarantee of the settlement amount of the car if a total occurs. The "Actual Cash Value" is explained above and allows the claims adjuster to determine the loss often for less than the "Stated Amount". Most insurance agents are not aware of this claims detail. Many agents, unaware of the actual policy language, will insist if your collector car is stolen or totaled, you will receive the stated value. They are Wrong!
Agreed Amount or Agreed Value Policies are the only guarantee in writing of the amount you will receive if your car is stolen or totaled. There is no "Actual Cash Value" clause in the policy. The "Agreed Amount" policy says the insurance company will pay you, the lesser of: The "Agreed Amount," or The cost to repair the covered auto, not to exceed the "Agreed Amount". With an "Agreed Amount" auto policy, your agent and you must agree together what the "Agreed Amount" should be before the policy is issued. The "Agreed Amount" should represent the true market value of the car at the time the policy is written. If the market value changes during the policy period, the "Agreed Amount" can be adjusted to reflect any market changes during the policy period and should be reviewed at renewal. These policies are different than Gap Insurance you may want to purchase to cover the fair market value of your car when it is financed or leased.

Wow.. I had my car appraised at a big car show in March.. I called up Progressive Direct, told them about the appraisal, told them I had almost $20k in aftermarket parts on it, including wheels, tires, supercharger, paint, body panels, blah blah, and the guy told me I could insure it at stated value $50,000 for a $4/year increase. Yes, that's correct, a FOUR DOLLAR A YEAR INCREASE.

So now my insurance is $779/6 months for two cars instead of $777.

Cat - I'd find a new ins company..

And yes, I head about those street-racing rules in ON. I also heard about the 86 year old guy they busted on the ETR (407) for "street racing".. LOL

Tried a new insurance company...none of them want to insure the badass Stang. I'm thinking I'll have to get a 2nd car, and perhaps they will take the Stang as an occasional driver, vs the primary.

Back in Black is RIGHT! Go for a low mileage policy it will save you a bunch of denero. I have 4 vehicles and all but one are insured this way and my total insurance bill is just $1200 every 6 months. The one vehicle is my DD and it is driven only for comuting and short errands. The other 3 are GQs (Garage Queens) and driven for pleasure only.

In Manitoba car insurance is handled by a crown corporation, a monopoly, and is not run for profit. We have some of the lowest rates in the country and in each of the last 3 years I have received a rebate check because they had extra money at the end of the day.

And people like to say the free market always gives better service and prices. Anybody in a free market receive money back from an insurance company for no reason?

I have Travelers Insurance. I didn't tell them about my mods and when someone broke in last week and took my radio, subs, amps, engine parts, all I have to do was produce the item receipts or credit card receipts OR even pictures and they paid for it. Got my money back + estimated labor. Check is in the mail....

Actually USAA gives back money every December. The amount is based on how much insurance you have paid over the years. Every year the amount increases and you get 5-10% of that amount. Also the amount of increase is even more if you have several lines of business. It helps when you don't have stockholders.
