I really dont get it, my dad has one and its a beautiful car. He didnt buy it to get a "good deal," He bought it because he wanted another Shelby, and a real one, not a 2007 SVT Cobra with Shelbys name on it. People say its a rip off compared to a Mustang GT, but everything is almost identical to a 65 GT350. Both are GTs modded in LV by Shelby, both had moderate hp gains over the Mustang GT (GT350 was a little more though), suspension upgrades and of couse the graphics. As for msrp, a new Mustang GT is about $30K, where as a Shelby GT is $45K. A 65 GT was about $3k and a GT350 was about $4.5K. Notice any similarities? But Ill admit the hoodscoop is kinda cheap though...

If you're talking about the shelby gt then most people dog it because it costs about $10k extra for a 20 hp increase and some cheesy decals. Now if they didn't cost so much, and wasn't just a re-badged GT with an intake and gears then maybe they would get a little more respect.

Again... thats what the GT350 was. Thats my entire point. And as for the guy saying SVT could have done a better job on the GT500 than shelby.... you all ****ed up because SVT developed that car.

all shelby does now is sign his name on the dashboard. Nothing innovative. Now i heard from someone that he actually sits on every car and pass gas to add value to it.

But you asked about the new ones. The original Carol Shelby actually had some input on the car. The new ones just have his signature stamped onto them. If they weren't $10K more than I'm sure there wouldn't be so many people hating them. For an extra ten thousand dollars I either want some serious perfomance upgrades or something nice done with the interior, or hell anything other than just decals and a stamp.

simple...think what you could do if you bought a mustang gt and spent 10 grand yourself on upgrades....with a mustang gt and 10 grand in upgrades you can blow the doors off of a gt500...hell you can probably run with a z06....so when you look at it that way...spending 10 grand for 20hp and a shelby stamp is a little silly...unless youre a huge fan of old man shelby

My father has owned 11, my mother has owned three, my mother was driving an 86 notch when she was pregnant with me, hell I was probably concieved in the back of that damn car. While other kids were playing with G.I. joes I was helping my father build his 351w for his 66 coupe that he had. I have been around mustangs all my life, hell it practiacally in my DNA. I have owned two myself, and yes I understand who Carol Shelby is, especially when it comes to mustangs, but the new ones don't have that same feel, the Shelby name doesn't mean anything to Ford anymore, its just another marketing tool to sell cars.

Props to your parents for doing it in the back of a notch.

here's another look at it :D
back when the GT350 was introduced, how much of a price difference was there to the regular GT? was it big enough to cover the add on parts, installation, and STICKERS, and then some?

V-6 is for real drivers. Go buy a Jetta if you want gas mileage and a chicks car. Buy a V-8 Mustang if you have no driving ability and need the extra horsepower to compensate and feel like you''''''''re fast.

Okay, the GT350...well the MSRP was around 37K when I picked out my 07 GT for around 25-26...then the stealerships started marking them up to around 42K...
If you're into having a special edition, then more power to you. But the price difference between the two models can buy you a lot of go fast goodies and/or gasoline.
The Shelby GT had maybe a 15 hp bump over the GT due to nothing more than a cold air intake and a very conservative factory tune. Hood pins, stripes, a rear spoiler delete and some nameplates and maybe Shelby's signature IMO was not worth the extra dough. But hey that's just me.

It might have somthing to do with the owners acting like they just bought the fastest, most special car ever. I see them quite often at the track, acting all cool and then manage a high 13 or low 14. Sure the Shelby name has some great history behind it, but Ford could care less about that, all they see is a chance to jack up the price of a GT and make more of a profit. Persoanlly I would never buy one because the price is just not justified inb my mind. I would never have bought an SS Camaro except I found mine for the same as what a regular Z/28 was going for at the time, with similar miles. I have since ruined any collectibilty or value to the car (engine, trans have been swapped out and I did not keep the originals). So for a person like me who likes to mod cars, buying limited edtions makes no sense.
Just because something was special back in the day doesn't mean it's special now. They are rip offs, if you want Shelby, go buy a dang classic!
