Hello everyone, my passenger side door speaker is blown and I need to replace it. What speakers do you reccomend to replace the stock speaker with? (by the way, I've got stock head unit and intend to keep it)

I want something louder and crisper than stock, but I want to keep stock H/U, I guess I'm kind of fond of it.

(bit cheaper is better, btw)

I'm not partial to any brands, I just want something that's nice, I don't care about the name as long as it just sounds good.

if you have a mach system then you will need to find an 8 ohm 5 x 7 woofer.  The closest I have found is a dual 4 ohm 6.5" at parts express.

If you have the standard stereo then you can go with any 4 ohm 5 x 7 or 6.5" speaker.

If you have the Mach 460 and want to keep it.  You'll need this speaker.  It's a 2 ohm which is what the 460 uses.  Normal car speakers use 4 ohm.  If you use those your speakers will hate you.

man I do not want to be mean but you do not know what you are talking about.  That 2 ohm infinity system has been blowing stock stereos(even though they swear they don't) but it will really make the mach amp unhappy.  The stock woofer once again is an 8 ohm 5 x 7 which is why it is so hard to match.  The tweeters are a 4 ohm 2.5" speaker so the impedence is easy to match but the size is odd to make it hard.  I know these things because I have had my hands on the woofers as of last week when I shipped mine out to a guy in kansas that wanted them.

I am a big fan of the more the better here but if you are not 100% sure that the info you are giving is correct then you are making it harder to help the people that want it.  There is alot of good info here just handed out to anyone that wants to learn that some of us have taken years to learn.

edit - I just saw your geeksquad sig and realized you can help us/me.  In the last couple of months we have had 2-3 poeple on here say that they had bby(specifically) install their deck and they now had NO bass and was told they needed to gut the mach system to fix it.  In these cases I had the people print up page 2 of my sig and take into the installers to show them what to do.  Can you maybe make an internal link in the company mail or tech tips to save all of us the trouble?  It would be great if I could be recoginized or even paid for it since I know it has ended up in a couple or tool boxes in your bays.  I don't take gift certificates for BBY since I quite shopping there over 10yrs ago when I left that place....

I really appreciate the gesture, but unfortunately this is that stock 8ohm thing that needs replacement.

parts express makes some 6.5s that have a dual 4ohm coil that you can wire in series to make an 8 ohm speaker.  You will need to make a baffle to mount them but it is not too hard.  If you don't have the tools or time for the baffle I can make a set and send them off for a fair price.

go to crutchfield.com and let them know what car and system you have. they will be able to show you what will fit in your car and you should be able to make a good judgement based on what they show you and what others are telling you on these boards. then go to best buy, circuit, etc. and give them a listen. talk to one of the techs there, especially if its slow. if its the install guy he'll be able to give you loads of information. then just make a decision based on price. piece of cake.

oh man....  There goes everything I was working for.  I will never recommend taking your car to worst lie or CC to listen to the techs there.  BBY has been giving more bad info on here then anyone and crutchfield does not understand the mach system.

yes ayn, but crutchfield WILL be able to tell you what size speakers you need. then you can figure out what resistance (ohms) you are looking for by what these guys up here are telling you, and by maybe doing a little research based upon what type of system and year mustang you have.

then you can go to your place of choice and have a listen and look at the quality. you can tell a lot about these things just by looking at them and feeling them up close. find the cheapest price with the type of warranty you feel comfortable with and go for it. without big aftermarket amps and such, the speaker won't make a big difference anyways. just dont spend too much for imperceptible quality.

without knowing your system and car, i have to reccommend alpine type-s's because they are cheap, decent sounding, factory replacement speakers. aka exactly what you are looking for. just make sure first that they will obviously work with the type of system you have.

he can't share the info until he has 50 posts.  They passed that rule here last year because we were getting screwed too often by people that would sign up for memberships just to steal from people.

Yeah, I'm not about to start buying from somebody that joins forum boards to sell his wares. So the only real solution I have so far is the dual 4 ohm thing?

Aighty. I'm just surprised ford would use such a non standard speaker.

it is a simple and funny change that makes thing difficult, the way they like it.

I have to warn you that you are building a sytem around the factory head unit, and they always fail.  If you are that dedicated to keeping the stock deck you will need to plan on replacing it sooner then later.
